One of the colleges I applied to didn't indicate that they need the College Official Report. However, I just learned that it is required. One of my recommendations is from a professor who is a dean. Should I ask them if this would suffice? I'm not sure what the right thing to do is. Would it appear lazy for me to ask them if this would be sufficient? Thank you.

Anyone? I’d love some advice.

There are times when asking for clarification and confirmation is never wrong. For you this appears to be one of those times. But I’m not sure that you’re framing your issue as a question. It sounds more like you’ve decided to do less than they may require and you’re planning on telling them that that is what you’re doing.

I’m not sure what “The Official College” report is. is it your college transcript. Are you a transfer student applicant? In any case why do you not have it sent? It’s late no doubt. Let admissions know through an email or phone call that it’s late, but that it’s coming. Apologize for the lateness. Why take shortcuts?

If “the College Official Report” is the transcript then, no, a recommendation from the Dean won’t suffice.

The College Official Report is a form on the common app that is very similar to the teacher recommendation form, also on the common app. The COR simply asks for a dean or advisor to review you and possibly write a recommendation. Well, one of the people who reviewed me and wrote a recommendation is a professor and a dean… I went ahead and asked the school whether this fulfilled the requirement and am waiting to hear back.

Found it. https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2012/2012CollegeOfficialsReport_download.pdf The College Official**'s** Report accompanies the transcript. I would still think the letter of recommendation is not enough because it asks for a summary of disciplinary actions as well as a rating of the student. But it’s a good thing you asked.

No, the COR is not similar to the Teacher LOR for fr applicants, it is analogous to the SSR for fr applicants. You need to go to your school and ask who the appropriate person to fill out the form is, as it varies by school, it could be your advisor, head of department, registrar, etc.

p.s. The Admissions forum is for fr admissions questions, that’s why members had not heard of the form; transfer admissions questions should be posted on Transfer Students forum.

I’m 95% sure you’re going to need to fill out a separate College Report. The LOR is asking more about who you are as a person. The COR is like asking about whether or not you’ve been in any trouble…
Contact the college to be sure.

I sent it in, and it got there yesterday. I’m hoping this doesn’t prevent me from being admitted into the college. Blows my mind that this form wasn’t on their instructions.
