Okay so... acceptances this week were a slaughter basically

Accepted at:
Arizona Honors with full ride
UCSD
UCSB
Westmont

Rejected at:
Claremont McKenna
Stanford
UNC
UVA

Waitlisted at:
Emory (number 3 choice)
Rice (number 1 choice)

Waiting for:
Duke (number 2 choice)..I had a great interview and essays for Duke so even though the trend would say that would be a no go, I'm holding out hope because I didn't have that for any of the others.
Pomona, but I doubt that will happen.

I need some advice. This is too complicated for my fragile state to handle.

(I'm actually not broken up about this.. I just need opinions)

What specifically do you need advice on…?

If you’re really torn up about Rice and Emory, get your GC to call up the admissions office to communicate your strength as a student and your continued interest. If you have any updates–major ECs, etc–send those in a concise letter. Those will give you the best chance of getting off the waitlist.

And keep those grades up, in case you’re still on the waitlist come June.

Advice: wait for the Duke answer, then ask again, and say what advice you seek.

This will be pretty hard to give you any advice on without knowing more about what you’re looking for. What do you want to study? What sort of environment are you looking for? What did you like so much about Rice and Emory? Have you visit the schools you’ve been accepted to? Are you leaning in the direction of one or two of them?

Sarah…

Are you instate for the UCs?

Are all the schools affordable?

Do you need to see the FA packages first?

Congrats on the full-ride at Arizona…is that an NMF scholarship or what? What all does the scholarship cover?

I would give you my opinion but instead you made me really angry by having that handle. I would never give you my insight you are undeserving.

Okay I got rejected from Duke and Pomona. Rough. Oh well.

I live in Arizona, but the full ride was merit based. I didn’t apply for financial aid anywhere. Money isn’t an issue (but I’m not saying it shouldn’t be valued.)

So the UCs are kind of expensive, but I can see myself at them more than at Arizona.

Also, I got a 14,000 a year (more than half tuition) at Westmont, which is a SMALL, private, Christian, LAC.

I think I might be leaning towards UCSD.

I loved Rice. If I got taken off the waitlist I would for sure matriculate. I love the atmosphere and the people and it is well-respected. Both my parents went to Rice as well so I have grown up with it as part of my life.

Emory… well I never visited so I can’t really say. I don’t know if I would matriculate if I was accepted. I haven’t accepted a spot on the waitlist yet.
