I need advise from students who live in the dorms!!!! help!!!!

Can anyone who knows anything about the transfer halls in the dorms give me any info plz (insiders)???

i prefer to live in the dorms my first year just to have a smooth and socially active transition into the school.. and considering that ive never lived away from home, i think i'd be better off in the dorms concerning the meal plan, furnished rooms, and basically less worries than having the responsibility of living in an apartment...

and, im really skeptical about living in the dorms period because of the fact that ill be surrounded by freshmens and me being a Jr. might be awkward?? idk?? any advice?? --

so, i would appriciate any info on the transfer halls: costs? vibe? oh and which dorms are the transfer halls located??

Hey Mattac, I will be transferring to UCR this upcoming fall too and I wanted to the know same information about the transfer dorms…so this is what I was told.

There really is no such thing as a “transfer hall”, they allow transfers to dorm in a hall in the Pentland Hills dorms but few transfers do & so the hall is mostly filled up by freshmen. As far as “fitting in” and not feeling awkward goes well I personally think that depends on the person. However my boyfriend who goes to UCR was a 2nd year and lived in Glen Mor with a transfer student who was like 23 and although it was fine, things were a little weird. He didnt “fit in” the group as much and they dont talk or keep in touch now.

Im 22 and wanted to live in a dorm for the same reasons as you but…I think itll be easier to make friends with ppl my same age or with the ppl that will graduate the same year as me at least. Also I didn’t want 18yr old freshman asking me to supply the booze to all their parties lol.

anywhere heres a website that might help you with info about the so-called “transfer halls”
[Housing Services - Transfer Student](Prospective Students | UCR Housing Services)
I called the Resident Halls office and asked about it…maybe you should too.

hey beautifulilfool… thanks for the info… and after finally taking a tour of the campus and the dorms vs. apts, i totally agree with you… so im actually deciding to live off campus at glen marc… its everything i want and half of what i’d pay for a 3 man dorm lol… (i always figured dorms would be cheaper than an apt.)
but anyways… goodluck and thanks for the post!

Glen Marc?

You mean Grand Marc? Lol there’s Glen Mor and Grand Marc.

haha… oh yeh… your right…

If you like partying and meeting international students, then I suggest checking out International Village. A little expensive, well worth it.

i do love partying… lol, … i was actually considering iv but never got to take a tour of the place… hey but your saying theirs actually a lot of international students who say their?

also, does any1 know of Grand Marc?? Let me know your pros and cons :D

When I was there a lot of French, japanese, German, and Chinese students when I wad there. I also lived in the 5 bedroom apt which has roof top access. It was pretty sick.

Your welcome Mattac for the previous post and actually I know quite a bit about grand marc… my boyfriend lives there now lol

The rooms are very spacious, you get your own bathroom, utilities are included in the rent and you have a washer and dryer…also the leases are individual by bedroom. Which is a feature I liked because if you live in a regular apartment & your roommate doesn’t pay the rent…its your problem too ya know. Grand Marc is a cool place to live…it is a little expensive compared to the surrounding apartments but its a good price compared to the dorms.

There are a lot of parties thrown at Grand Marc and there have been robberies there. But its not too far from campus and right across the street from the UV. Its also across the street from the UVT and down the street from Sterling apartments…both of which offer the same amenities as Grand Marc, the same individual leases, furnished apartments and all are for about the same price…BUT the bedrooms in Grand Marc are larger.

I was looking at IV too because it looks very pretty haha…but idk much else about it…
