I need an idea for a speech!

Hello! :) My teacher is making us write an informative (not persuasive!) speech on a social issue. I really want to do mine on depression, self-harm, and suicide, but if that doesn't really count as a social issue, what are some other good ones? He said the speech has to be something you are passionate about. We also have to have a certain story about the issue. Like, if your speech is about child abuse, you could talk about how your cousin was beaten to death his abusive father. We are allowed to lie in the stories, but the story shouldn't be completely untrue. I have a great mostly true story for depression, and it's the first thing I thought of.

I want my view to be my actual opinion, not everyone else's. Like, if you suggest "marijuana legalization," I'd actually be for it. It's the same with same-sex marriage. I want something that can be considered good no matter what your opinion is. I live in a mostly Republican area, if that helps.

I also don't want it to be a common issue. Some things I know I won't do are abortion, marijuana legalization, same-sex marriage, and gun control, because everyone else is probably going to be doing those same issues.

I really want a good grade on this speech, because pretty much our only grades are for the speeches. Our last one was for over 10% of our grade. Thanks!

I really like your first one. If child abuse counts as a social issue, depression and self-harm certainly do.
