I need another school!

I applied to 6 schools, I got into my safety and they other 5 are all reaches, anybody know a school that has what I want and has a deadline of 2/1 or later.

My stats -
GPA - 83 or 2.98
SATs - M670 CR 530 W480
RANK - 152/295 bottom 50%
School - very good public school in NY send grads to top schools
Course Load - A few honors in math and science but no APs
FA - will apply even though wont get any(income $148,000)

I want to major in Mechanical Engineering but I am applying undecided because I am not 100% sure.

What was your safety? I think other posters would be interested and reassured.

It wasn’t actually my safety it just turned out to be applied to PSU but got in one of other campuses not UP, I got into Penn State Berks Campus.

So you applied as an Undecided to all your schools and not engineering. Thnx.

I applied to engineering for PSU and when I didn’t get int I figured that was why so I did undecided for the rest.

Ok…

So, you don’t particularly like your safety…

Is that your weighted GPA?

IF so, that’s going to make this a bit tougher.

What do you want in a school in ADDITION to mech eng’g. :)

big
small
quiet
rah rah big sports
greek systems as an option
Catholic schools ok?
single sex
co-ed 50/50 split
rural setting
big city setting
collegetown setting
nice dorms
recreation availability
warm weather
cold/snowy weather

What is your budget?

Once you answer the above, we can zero in with what you need since time is limited.

Try Juniata? maybe…

University of Kansas & Indiana University.

These should be in the safety to match range for you:

[College Navigator - Search Results](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Search Results)

Spot checking, some of these have a Feb. 1 deadline, some a later deadline, some use rolling admissions, some say priority to earlier applicants but are still accepting applications. None that I could find were closed to applicants as of today. Criteria used include offering ME as a major.

It’s not that I don’t like my safety it is just that it was a small schooland on campus housing is already full, but I found another school, York College of Pennsylvania.

York College is small, too. So, if size is an issue…

York College does have mech eng’g major, but does it have a College of Engineering? Does it have adequate facilities? It seems to just have 3 eng’g majors.

What else do you care about?

It’s not that I didn’t like a smaller it’s just that my first safety had no housing left on campus. I no York has only 3 engineering majors but the facilities are new and I hope to go to grad school one day.

Ahh…just making sure…

What chance do you think you have of going to a safety school?

I guess what I’m asking is… Are your other choices unlikely reaches, and if so, is there a fair chance that you’ll end up at a safety.

I’m wondering because… if there’s a decent chance that you’ll end up at a safety (for 4 years), you may want to consider more than just finding a school with engineering. You may want to consider the whole campus experience. I wouldn’t just pick a safety for the sake of having a safety, if I would be bored once I was there. (This isn’t a knock on York, I have no idea of what it has in the way of social life.)

Let me give you an example. There is a school by me that has a very good engineering program with great co-ops, etc. But, many kids don’t really like going there, because the campus lacks the full campus experience.

Now, if none of that is important to you, then fine. :)

How many safety schools do you want? 2? 3? 4? I think kids should have a 2-3 safeties (or more) if their reaches are iffy.

Maybe WVU, Rowan, WNEC and Hartford.

Look at Youngstown State University. It gets a bad rap because it’s in NE OH and the rest of the state looks down on that part of the state. The engineering program is very good and even had one of its grads as one of the early space shuttle astronauts–not many programs can boast that! Kids who go there as part of a state early college program and then go on to top tier programs all come away surprised and impressed. Its tuition is reasonable, there are more and more dorms and new apartments each year so there are more students living on campus. The campus itself is safe–be careful off campus. If you want engineering…take a look. Oh and application deadline is Feb.15, so you still have time…but it’s running out fast.

Avoid WVU, WNEC & Hartford. I am familiar with all of these schools. Hartford has too many issues to list.

I just applied to York College of Pennsylvania and from what I have research out it is really nice and I know a kid from my school who graduated last year and goes there so I will just ask him more about it.

So, now you’re done. No more safeties needed, right? Or, one more?

I’m done sending out applications for good but I have just one more question, does York require a letter of recommendation or essay because there was no place on the app for one and I can’t find a teacher recomendation form?

This is rather vague… You probably need to call to be sure.
