I Need Application Advice!

I originally posted this in “Transfer Students” but it didn’t get any replies so I’m trying here.

So I am doing my transfer academic update for the UC’s I applied to and I’m wondering if I should include something in the “additional comments”.

Basically, my GPA this past semester went from a 3.5 to a 3.2 because I got 2 C’s and a B in all 5-unit classes. I struggled this past semester due to a combination of school closure because of the fires (I live in NorCal) and because I had to change my medical insurance.

The change in medical insurance is relevant because I was denied a prescription for my ADHD medication under my new insurance. I am working with my new doctor to get me back on the ADHD meds, so I will have them again by next semester, but I didn’t have them for most of last semester.

Should I include any of that as an explanation to my poor grades? or would that look like I’m trying to make excuses? or would the UC’s look at that as “she can’t function as well as other students so we don’t want her”?

Other relevant info: Im transferring from a CCC; all my past grades are A’s and B’s with one other C; I have 5 semesters worth of grades up to this point (doing 3 years at my CCC); the 2 C’s are in Calc I and Gen. Chem I, B is in Organ. Bio ;I applied to all UC’s as a psychology major (I am a biology major at my CCC); I have a 4.0 in all psych. related classes (will they care about that more?)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The medical situation seems relevant so I would include the information or maybe even a letter from your physician. Good luck!

@pretzelnuggets1 : Yes, you should include both situations in the “additional comments section”. These are occurrences which can be classified as hardships which can affect one’s grades.

Definitely put both those items in additional comments. Explain as much detail as possible without blabbing on and on forever. It is important to explain as the GPA took a downturn.
