I need assistence - Request for Consent to Release Information?

I am signing up for a community college to get my associates degree. Then I am going to transfer, hopefully, to UCLA, UC Berkeley, or, with the Lords assistence, Stanford. I am applying this very moment. I finished the application process. Now it asks me before I send it out:

Request for Consent to Release Information
The community colleges you attend and the Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges request your help. We ask that you agree to allow us to release necessary personal information about you to various agencies and organizations so we can do research, plan programs and offer special services to you (such as transfer opportunity information or state financial aid). If you do agree to give your consent, your information will not be sold, used for commercial purposes, released to the public, or given to other government agencies for purposes of determining benefits (other than financial aid), except where specifically required by law. In addition, if you do consent to release of your information, those organizations and agencies to which your information is given are prohibited by law from using it for any unauthorized purpose or releasing it to anyone else. If you do not give your consent, personal information about you will not be shared with other organizations or agencies except where allowed by law. You should also know that, answering "no" to this question will not prevent release of certain "directory information" about you. To learn more about directory information or how to block its release, see the Privacy Policy.

I authorize the Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges, and the community colleges I am attending to release necessary personal information contained in my education records, including my Social Security number, for the purposes described in the Full Statement of Consent:

Here is the link to the Full Statement of Consent:

Here is what it says concenting will get me:
1. To federal or state agencies to evaluate jointly administered programs or to comply with reporting requirements;
2. To data matching services to measure student success in transferring to four-year colleges or universities;
3. To colleges, universities, or government agencies to promote outreach to students and to enhance transfer;
4. To the California Student Aid Commission to facilitate the award of financial aid; and
5. To organizations or agencies assisting the Chancellor's Office or the community colleges you attend with research and analysis.

Do I do it? I don't need to, but I've never done this or asked anyone about such things. What do you all think I should do?

Basically what "releasing" does is allows them to give access to other "agencies" (schools, etc.) who may offer you admittance, scholarships, etc. based on the details of our application and your CC GPA.

Also, they'll be doing certain governmental profiling (race/sex/age) for their own benefit.

There's no harm in agreeing, especially since they assure you that they won't sell your info.

The one thing I wish they WOULDN'T do is include your social security number. Seriously. NO ONE needs to have that UNTIL it is required by law (acceptance of a job, for example). IF you can leave that field blank, consider it.

Best of luck! Really.

Thanks for the help! They require me to add my SSN. Should I still do it? It says it helps with transfering. I am really considering it.

Go ahead, if it's a required field.

It isn't required. It's an optional choice.

I meant the SS number. If it's a required field.

Go ahead and agree to the release.

("They require me to add my SSN")

Okay ^_^ Thanks.

Im still having second thoughts. lol
