I need braces... going to college next year

LOL !

awww, but chipmunks are soooo cuuuuute!!!

I refused to get my wisdom teeth out despite many dentists saying I should just in case (but they never gave me a reason that satisfied me enough). I kept hearing “it might cause X” but I said “couldn’t I wait until we saw signs of X and then remove them?” and they always said yes. So I didn’t get them out in any preventative way and all has been fine.

By the time I was 30-35 everyone thought it was pointless to remove them since they hadn’t posed a problem. I did end up with invisalign more recently in my 40s, and still no one wanted to me to remove my impacted wisdom teeth.

Ok next topic my ortho also notes my jaw made clicking noises when I open my jaw up on the right side, he said I should get It checked by a specialist but again that’s money I don’t have. He said tmc or something like that but my jaw only locks when I use a mouth piece but otherwise it just makes a clicking noise when I open it… Will braces help this? I hope it’s not bad I had it for a while not sure how long though

its tmj. Braces might help.

I actually just went for an ortho visit recently and he urged me to get braces (again!) because of my severe TMJ. I already had braces in middle school, and even then I was advised that I would need jaw surgery when I’m older. I moved to a different town and my permanent retainer broke, and a new orthodontist also recommended that I get jaw surgery (my jaw clicks every time I open it). I didn’t want to do it then, but it’s gotten worse over the past year. I went to a different ortho and he said the exact same thing. (My teeth are still perfectly fine, but now they need to pull out teeth to prep my mouth for the surgery. )

TMJ can get worse for some, but usually it goes away on its own. My family’s health insurance will cover a huge chunk of my braces (traditional clear ones) and jaw surgery because of the severity of my problem and the high chances of me getting a permanently locked jaw (which would be more costly to fix depending on the severity).

If you’re not getting really bad migraines, a severe overbite, and jaw and neck pain, you may not need jaw surgery. Elastics from braces can fix up most bite problems, and like most people have said Invisalign can take care of really minor bite issues.

If you do decide to get braces (or Invisalign), make sure you take care of the jaw problem. You wouldn’t want to pay for two rounds of braces!

Oh wow are you serious? I just got braces and I think its gotten better haha I kind.of couldn’t open my jaw so I cnt tell. Did you open and close your jaw a lot? I did and it didn’t.hurt but it felt like a semi relief to keep moving my jaw around. The doctor didn’t say I needed elastkcs but he shaved off my buck teeth so there a lot smaller. I.don’t want nor can I afford surgery so I think ill keep my.jaw closed and.I chewed a lot of gum when j was younger a lot and that’s how I got my.tmj. once you add a lot.of chewing to my unnaligned teeth tmj developed. Hopefully it doesn’t come.back.ill never.do that again and I’m so.happy I don’t chew my.nails anymore because it.hurts to chew haha I wish you.good luck its hell.having tmj. I hate the clicking noise and the feeling and temptatoon your jaw constantly had

One person in our family developed a clicking jaw because of their orthodontic work.
