I heard many good things but unfortunately bad things are just as equivalent, can someone offer me an objective view about the college? Particularly, is it a good environment for higher education?

Interesting. I’ve not heard any bad things about the university.

It is rising every year in national prominence, currently ranked #71 nationally.

If you let us know what concerns you have, you may be able to get better feedback either confirming or rebutting these issues.

I apologize I may have exaggerated what I meant. I have always known of Baylor as a caring community where professors pay close attention to each and every individual. That’s one of things I really like about the college.
However unfortunately for me, my biggest concern about attending a college is cost. I came from not the most better-off background and I heard that Baylor tuition fee is quite high.
Additionally, last night I looked up some comments on StudentReview and some negative comments popped out, such as racial and religious discrimination (I am a Catholic though). Some comments even said that what I have learned about the caring community is just a facade.
I am aware that such views are very subjective and I hope everyone pardon me should I make false statement. I am applying Early Action for Baylor and it is really my top choice university. It’s just that some of these comments above concerns me a little so I need to clarify as I unfortunately cannot directly come to Baylor campus to experience it myself.

Thanks for your candor.

You are 100% correct. Baylor is very expensive. No way around that. Have you used the online scholarship calculator to see what type of merit aid you’d qualify for? They are pretty generous with merit aid, so that frequently takes a good bit of the edge off the price.

I can’t speak for Baylor directly (my only connection is having a bunch of friends went there are the fact that my son plans on going in 2015) however I will say that everywhere you go if it is church, or school, or clubs, you will run in to SOME people who are hypocrites. I can’t imagine Baylor is immune to this. I will say that one thing that impresses me is how much people who attend (or have attended) seem to genuinely love the school. I’ve yet to talk to a student of alumnus face to face who didn’t rave about it.

Last week I went to a Baylor “watch party” to see the Baylor - UTex game and met several recent graduates. About half of them were racial minorities and nobody had anything but good things to say. My son is bi-racial so the issue is something I consider, but frankly based on what I saw in the diversity of the party made me not feel I even needed to ask the question. It was very reassuring.

Sorry I don’t have any real first hand experience, but wanted to share my impressions.

Best wishes to you, wherever you choose to attend!

OP,

I visit friends at Baylor fairly regularly and can honestly say it is very representative of every college I have ever visited, be it UT, Vanderbilt, TCU, Tulane and any other school you can think of. I would say your social concerns and cost should be separate issues and not mixed when you are considering a school. With your cost concerns I would be curious as to why Baylor is your #1 choice. If you post your test scores, class rank and GPA we could give you an an estimated cost to attend based on projected scholarship awards.
