So I found out I got accepted to Cal for the SPRING semester on March 29, and they have this program called FPF, I only visited the school two days ago and decided to mail in my request to be in the FPF today. When I went on the website it said it was already full, and now I'm on the wait list.
I have to submit my SIR by May 1. Should I go to Cal and submit my intent to register without knowing if I'll be accepted into the FPF?
If i'm not accepted I will have to go to community college and live at home for a semester, and I'm afraid when I enroll in the Spring that it will be hard for me to make friends and have the full college experience.

I have other options as well

If I don't go to Berkeley, I have been accepted to UC Davis and UC San Diego as well (for the fall).
I loved UC Davis (would probably go there over San Diego) almost as much as Cal. If I go to Davis I would get the full college experience and be able to make friends and be integrated right away.

What should I do? please help, this is so hard.

If you really want to go to Cal then you should go to Cal, regardless of whether or not you get into FPF.

One of my friends didn’t get into FPF, but he took breadth classes at a community college at home. He easily assimilated himself into Cal during spring semester. I’d say this is your next best option, because you’d save quite a lot of money doing so.

If living at Berkeley during fall is a must for you, I suppose you could always dorm and then take classes at the community college here near campus. Although I’m not sure if that’s completely plausible.

Making friends and integrating is not that hard as a spring admit. I did the FPF program, but my friends who didn’t are doing just fine. They joined clubs that interested them and found a nice group of friends. If you’re not a terribly social person, it may be difficult.

I would personally stick with cal, but it’s up to you, you have 3 weeks to decide…and if you do get into FPF, you might get into anthro 1 with Gary Richards (AMAZING professor and person. He had access to a lot of material even berkeley kids didn’t get to see).

Why do you think that entering in the spring would make your experience any less of the “full college experience” (no matter what you do in the fall–FPF or CC)? You do realize there will be hundreds of other spring admits. Plenty of opportunities to make new friends. But if you loved Davis, just go there–no need to torture yourself.
