I need good matches/safeties! Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I’m a first generation asian male from Alaska. I am interested in applying to a broad range of schools with focus on engineering (probably chemical)

Quick stats:

GPA: 4.17W, 3.98UW (W/O Frosh year, 4.00UW)
Rank: 4/456
SATI: 2200 (800M, 650CR, 750W)
SATII: 790 IIC, 750 Chem, taking Lit. and Physics and IIC (for 800) in December

The current list I have right now is this:

Stanford

University of California, Berkeley

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Cornell University

Princeton University

My tastes in school:

First of all, as long as the school isn’t in the south, I am fine. California is my ideal college spot, but the midwest and east coast is also fine with me.
I’d like for a school to be suburban with good student body diversity. Also, I want to go to a school with nice aesthetics and landscaping. Of course, academics is the most important factor–schools with strong engineering or science related majors.

UCB and Cornell are large, but they are exceptions I am willing to make.

From what I’ve read and seen, I think I would be most satisfied in a place like Stanford or UMich. Schools that are similar would be nice also :)

Do you guys have any suggestions for matches/safeties?

Thanks so much!

im sure ull get into all schools as long as ur Extracirrucular activities are decent and essays are good, stanford may be a small reach, U mIch definetly ull get in, infact if UMICH is your first choice dont bother applying elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback sonic, but I'd like some more specific critical feedback if possible :)

My updated list looks a bit like this:

Stanford

University of California, Berkeley

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Cornell University

Princeton University

Northwestern University

Dartmouth College

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

Boston University

University of California, Irvine

should I get rid of some? perhaps just apply to all?

Dartmouth, UC Irvine, and Boston U are not noted for chemical engineering. I would drop those from your list. Perhaps add two or three of the following that have strong ChemE programs:
U Minnesota
U Wisconsin Madison
Caltech
MIT
Princeton
Carnegie Mellon
U Delaware (surprising strength in chem E)
UCLA
Oregon St

also strong but in the south:
Rice (but in the south)
U Texas Austin
Texas A&M
U Houston
U Arizona

RF: with your stats plus first gen plus Alaska, I would be astounded if you didn't get into UMich. But if you haven't applied yet, you need to ASAP. The sooner you do, the sooner you'll know for sure, and can then eliminate other match/safeties (unless financial safeties)>
