I was selected for verification for the 2018-2019 year and had submitted all the documents necessary last June. The Financial Aid Office did everything they were supposed to do and sent everything to the Department of Education. They were supposed to return a form back to my university, but have not done so, and it’s been 10 MONTHS. I keep asking about if it arrived, and the office said they have not gotten anything back every time I went there over those 10 months. The problem is not the financial aid office, it’s the Department of Education. What should I do? I cannot continue my studies without financial aid, and my school cannot process my award without the form from DOE.
What form was supposed to be sent by the Department of Education?
@thumper1 yes. They were supposed to fill out a form and send it to my University. It would normally take 3-5 business days.
@thumper1 I’m sorry, I read the question wrong. I’m not sure what the form is called, but the Financial Aid office did everything they had to and I submitted all the documents needed
You will need to get this resolved before this semester ends.
Find out what form is missing
This doesn’t make sense. There is absolutely no reason this should take so long. Ask to speak with a supervisor, and insist that the supervisor look at your aid file to determine what is going on. I can think of a few things that could be going on that are system-related, and a manager in the aid office would be able to figure that out - an aid officer or a student worker would not necessarily understand the things that can mess things up. (But an aid officer should be able to escalate something like this …)
@kelsmom I absolutely agree that it doesn’t make sense. I’ll see if I can take my case higher, and I’ll post an update soon.
UPDATE. So what the office was waiting on was an ISIR (Institutional Student Information Report) from the Department of Education. From what I’ve been told, they have it, and have to process it. They told me if there is no change to my account by the end of next week, call them.
