Alright, I was accepted into Notre Dame, Boston College, and the University of Maryland.
I need to pick between these schools.
The real decision is this - I want to go to graduate school for a law degree. I know that. So meanwhile, I need an undergraduate degree. Notre Dame and BC will likely run me close to $60k a year, while UMD would be free for all four years. I want to do really well in college, so that I can get into a top tier graduate program after receiving my degree.
Please, I could really use some help making this decision.
Unless there is something unique (a major that UMD doesn’t have?) about ND and BC, it’s hard to figure out how they could be worth $240k when UMD is free. What is the $240k buying you? For that kind of money, you could attend law school and graduate debt free. And have enough left over for a down-payment on an apt and a car. Unless of course you come from a family for whom money is no object, in which case, why would you even need to ask?
UMD’s a good school, and certainly there’s no school in the world worth a quarter million dollars more than another school even if your parents are wealthy. It’s undergrad. It doesn’t matter very much where you go, despite what most consumers think. Congrats on the two other admissions, but go to UMD and save your money for something worthwhile.
Congratulations on your acceptances. If you want to go to grad school for law, I wouldn’t take on debt for your undergrad. Go to UMD and focus on getting good grades. When you get your bachelor’s, I imagine you’ll be very happy not to have any debt.
If your parents have the money, it’s their choice… but, really, if you get a full ride, it means you got into the Honors Program and will get a tailored experience with awesome perks, so I’d go with UMD.
