I am a high school senior and have been accepted at several schools' aerospace engineering programs. I have narrowed my choices down to two schools who have given me the best financial packages and are not overly far from home. Both have offered me placement in their honors programs. University at Buffalo SUNY has a well established program with much to offer, but is a very large school where I may be just one of many. I have also been offered a place at the University of Akron where they are starting a brand new aerospace engineering program. Akron is smaller, closer to home and they have offered me an incredible financial package. They have a great reputation for polymer and material engineering but of course no reputation for a completely new aerospace program. Do I accept at UB and go with an established program or do I accept Akron and help them start theirs?

I suggest you start a new thread with “aerospace engineering programs” in the title. The people who know about such things will then be able to see what you need. Good luck!

Akron is largely a commuter school, so unless you live in that town, you will be lonely at night and on weekends.

go to UB…it’s a better situation overall.

Besides…Akron probably isn’t ABET accredited for the program yet.

I would really suggest to go with the established program at UB.

It seems like the ABET accreditation only takes 1-2 years at most and since all the other engineering programs at Akron are ABET accredited, that should be low risk.
