I NEED HELP DECIDING: ND, U of M honors, UNC, USC

I am a pre-med Christian, and really like going out with my friends on the weekends, but also need to stay focused b/c need to get into med school.

So, potential schools: U of Michigan Honors (not ross tho, College of Lit, Science, and art), Notre Dame, USC, Boston College, UNC Chapel Hill, and technically Tufts and Pepperdine (but I think BC over Tufts and Pepperdine is only b/c it would be free)

ANY HELP would be MUCH appreciated

btw- I've been to ND, BC, Tufts, and U ofM; I really like them all, they're just all so different.....

If you are truly undecided and have a full ride or full tuition offer from Boston College, then you should give serious consideration to going to school in what many regard as the best college town/city in the world. Univ. of Michigan Honors is a significant achievement, however. Are you in-state for Michigan?

thanks! But no scholarships at BC, just full ride at Pepperdine; all the others would be full price....

Do u consider U of M honors "more prestigious" than ND?

Also should mention that my parents are really well-off, they said I should just pick where I want to go.......

and no, I live in Iillinois

How can we help you? You said you like all the schools equally and you say that finances aren't a concern. Any of those schools will be great. You just have to decide on your own which one suits you best. We cannot decide for you.

UMich for sure. Premed program at UMich is better than than that all all except USC (correct me if wrong).

Also since you like to go out on weekends, UMich would be awsome since its a HUGE school.

Depending on the climate you prefer, you should chose between USC and UMich.

Thanks guys!

I think I've actually narrowed it down to U of M honors, Notre Dame, and Boston College

Would it be stupid to turn down Notre Dame for BC? Because I really like Boston a lot, but the campus-feel/food of ND was a lot nicer...

It's not stupid to turn down any one of those schools. However, Notre Dame produces more med school applicants proportionally than either Michigan or Boston College.

Go to Michigan. You'll have the excitement of a great university in a wonderful college town. There is an energy on that campus that very few schools have. Also you're bound to intermingle with many different types of cultures and students from all over the world.

'Novi, I could be wrong, but I think Hopefulfor2012 wants to go to a school where the majority of the students share his religious beliefs.

Hopeful, if you prefer the Notre Dame campus to the BC campus, go to Notre Dame. You will be living and studying on campus, so the campus should be your priority.

If that is the case i would also agree with ND. However, Hopeful was looking at others schools with no catholic affiliation. So i assume that isn't written in stone, or should i say, "tablets?"

haha......I'm female! :) But yes, I am definitely Christian (tho protestant) and that would be nice to have that kind of atmosphere, but I also know college is about meeting new people/experience new cultures?

I'm thinking maybe ND would be better because 1) it might help me more w/med school and 2) no boston/annarbor = less distractions from schoolwork (I know this makes me sound really lame, but I'll have to keep a high GPA and I hope ND has enough party?......)

I think it's between Umich and ND now........though I love Boston and really want to go there (seriously, applied to harvard, tufts, BU, AND BC- got into all except Harvard) but I think I'll save it for gradschool

You have to pass a swimming test at Notre Dame to graduate. Just FYI if you don't know how to swim.

I'm a lifeguard :) thanks tho!
lol- I'm also female

Thanks again for all your help, and please keep responding if you have anything else to say b/c this is FAR from decided........

I think as of now it's a public private debate. At UMich, you will probably get a bit more attention than others since you're honors, but consider that first two years will still have a few huge lecture hall courses. Notre Dame will still have smaller class sizes for sure, but then again, it isn't as well known. Take your pick!

It's too bad I don't have the luxury of picking between those two schools... xp but just to put it out there, I'd take ND

Coincidence? I think not. Yesterday Michigan lost to Notre Dame in the NCAA semi-finals, and tomorrow ND plays Boston College for the national championship. Are you into hockey? Any way you slice it, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, North Carolina, and BC are among the top schools with a combination of sports, academics, social life, and interesting setting.

Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, UCLA, Berkeley, and Wisconsin also fit that pattern.

I'd go with Notre Dame, if you can stand the oppressive isolation that is South Bend. Be aware that the big universities like Michigan tend to be more geared towards graduate students than undergrads.

You have an all expenses paid degree at Pepperdine while you're paying full expenses at Michigan/ND/BC/UNC/Tufts? Or am I reading this incorrectly?

Yes, but she also said that her parents are very well off and that financial consideration is not an issue.

Hopefulfor2012, your parents saying "just go wherever you want to go" is very nice of them and it is great to see that they are supportive of your decision. However, you really need to realize the financial consequences of going to one of these private colleges, or expensive out-of-state public schools!

Getting a college degree is supposed to be an investment, you go to college so you can get a well paying job and further your education. College graduates make more money over their life than non college graduates. How is it a wise investment to go to a school such as ND that has a over a $200,000 price tag for 4 years, when you can go to a very well respected school such as Pepperdine?

If your parents are well off, that's because they've made smart decisions with their investments. Don't make a stupid investment. You talking about how you want to go to Med School, that will only further costs. Who wouldn't want to go to Malibu compared to the snow and the cold? You also made a point in your first sentence that you were a Christian, an environment that is prevalent at Pepperdine.
