I'm really stressed... i can't decide whether or not to take the opportunity to attend NYU CAS and play soccer for the school or attend Duke. I feel as though Duke's prestige outweighs that of NYU's, but I would love the chance to play soccer in college, and probably cant walk-on for Duke. What should I do?

Biggest factors should be:

How much do you want to play soccer for a college team?
Which school do you like more, disregarding soccer and prestige?
How's the money situation for both schools?

wow ur lucky, I wish i can stress out about deciding btw 2 great schools.

i really wanna play soccer because its been a part of my life for so long, but in the long run i want to get into the best med school possible--so maybe delayed gratification might be the high road.

I haven't recieved financial aid details from either school yet.

Duke will be the better bet for med-school, but the thing to remember is that if you got into both Duke and NYU, you're likely to succeed anywhere. So which would you prefer: be among the best at NYU (likely) or be more average at Duke. Either way is great. You can always still play soccer at Duke without playing on the school team.

Just wondering though, why NYU and Duke? They seem so different.

i actually applied to 12 pretty competitive schools, im just trying to eliminate one of those 2 out of the 4 ive heard back from

Club soccer at Duke will be as competitive as NYU's team. NYU is not a sports school at all and thus the competition at the D3 level will not be that strong. Go for the best school/fit you can and forget the soccer. Club sports are great and competitive.

I agree; you can just play club soccer at Duke... if you're serious about going to medical school, then you have to remember that plaing a varisity sport at the level that Duke's soccer team is at is a very consuming time commitement. Not that being very succesful at a school like Duke isn't possible while playing a sport, it will just be that much harder.

I recommend that you post this in the Parent Forum/Cafe. There are several parents of college athletes on there who can give you advice from experience.
