I need help finding scholarships

I've been looking through a lot of websites looking for scholarships but almost all of them say that I must display financial need. I filled out the FAFSA and didn't qualify for any money so I can't apply for a ton of scholarships but I still need money. Where can I find scholarships that don't have that requirement? Thanks.

It is very hard to find outside scholarships that don’t…

have a need req’t

aren’t small

aren’t only for one year (so what do you do about years 2, 3, & 4???)

The biggest scholarships are from schools that give them.

How much do the schools that you applied to cost?

What is your EFC?

How much will your parents pay each year?

Did you apply to any financial safeties?

I’m going to USC Honors college, it’s around 20k a year, my parents will pay for it but I want to help them as much as possible. I got my state’s highest scholarship for 10k a year and I’m assuming USC will give me a couple thousand a year so I don’t need much but I’d like to get as many scholarships as much as possible.

Do you mean University of South Carolina?

Is the $10k scholarship from your state or from the school? (is it the Palmetto or something like that?)

IF you haven’t rec’d any merit from the school yet, when do they typically award their merit scholarships?

If you have an ACT 28, you’ll get $2k, and if you have an ACT 29+, you’ll get at least $3k. (or SAT equivalent)

What are your stats?

For outside scholarships, you should ask your guidance counselor, or look on your HS website. If your GC has a webpage, he/she might list scholarship opportunities there.

Have you been to fastweb.com? Make an account, and they’ll link you to tons of scholarships.

I’ve actually been looking for scholarships that DO have a need requirement (I have 0 EFC), but can’t find any other those.

Yes, South Carolina, and yes, it’s the Palmetto Fellows. They said they’ll let me know scholarship info by march. I have a 4.6 GPA and a 1390 SAT. Thanks, I didn’t realize they gave automatic scholarships.

I have a fastweb account and that was the main source of my trouble with finding scholarships that didn’t have a financial need requirement.

There’s a parent posting on the parent forum with some of the same questions. You might want to jump over there for a look.

Applying for scholarships can suck up a lot of time. Is there any work you can do to earn some money?

I think I would reverse the process. Instead of searching the scholarship sites, I would first make a list of my particular strengths. Oboe player? Descendant of Thomas Jefferson? 4H knitter? Search your strength + scholarship and see what turns up.
Good luck!
