i need help getting to orientation

Maybe you should call and ask.

and sorry for another question… is there a site where i can find the bus times for the 17?

The SC Metro site or the transportation tab on Google Maps.

Regarding your question on the 10, caltrain, then 17… where are you departing from and where are you arriving?

^ depart from LAX and then arrive to the san jose airport

My bad, I meant where are you departing from in San Jose (hotel/airport?) The 10 is a free bus that connects the airport to a few other stops. I once took the 10 to Santa Clara Transit Center and then the 22 to Diridon station. From the diridon station you just take the 17 express.

^the San Jose airport…
anyway i have found the directions online:
[Getting To SJC Airport](Santa Cruz METRO - Getting To SJC Airport)

this site doesn’t say anything about the caltrain… unless im mistaken that vta lightrail is the caltrain…?

I was just wondering cause you were asking about hotels first and I didn’t know if you were going to check in to a hotel first and then head over to UCSC. The caltrain and the vta light rail are completely different. The caltrain is an actual train which runs on train tracks and goes to train stations. The VTA light rail is basically like a hybrid of a bus/train which actually goes through the city roads (sometimes not), but it has its own little area to run on and is much faster than a regular bus.

so is the caltrain faster or is the vta faster? whihc one is more expensive?

I would think the caltrain is faster, but they kinda go completely different routes. The light rail should be cheaper, but I haven’t really dealt with taking really short distances on the cal train, so you might want to look online.

If you are taking the 17 express, you should get a one day pass ($10 for unlimited rides on the 17, vta buses/light rail, and buses in santa cruz) then all your travel for the day is basically paid for. It’s a great deal because one way on the highway 17 is $5, so it’s almost a waste getting two one-way tickets for a total of $10.

uhh idk about the day pass… we are arriving to santa cruz on the 25th morning, orientation 26th, and then leave the 27th morning… think i should use the day pass on the 25th to explore the city or just walk>?

If you want to explore the city, the bus definitely isn’t a good option. Downtown is pretty compact; it really only makes sense to walk around.

Yeah, you can walk around downtown and even to the boardwalk area. You basically only need a bus in SC if you need to go to campus from downtown.

ok thanks… i’ll ask if i need anymore questions later if i have to but i think i got everything planned and ready. thanks for the replies everybody. especially golfer&hadrian

all i hope is that me and my friend dont end up getting lost while in santa cruz. LOL.

Lol you’ll be fine. If you ever get lost, just ask around for directions. SC is very friendly and people will be more than happy to help (just watch out for homeless people on crack).
