I need help IDENTIFYING my major...

Okay you guys, I know its a little late to still be thinking about this, but it's not as bad as the title reads just HEAR ME OUT haha.

I know exactly what I want to pursue in life. I would like to be involved in the Entertainment Business, either as a talent agent or as an executive at an entertainment corporation.

I need to know which major I should be choosing to pursue this goal. The ones I think I have to choose from are...
-Economics
-Business Management

Are there any others that would better suit what I want to do?

Thanks a ton!

your major isn't going to get you a job like that. Taking a few business or accounting classes would help, but the most important thing is going to be your ability to sell yourself. It's a business based heavily on schmoozing and contacts.

You start by being involved in organizing and arranging things in college, and more importantly get internships. The classic entry into the business is to be a page or intern at a studio. Have you ever been to NYC? The people leading the tours at NBC, etc. there aren't doing it because they've dreamed of being guides, its because its a way to get their foot in the door and hopefully be noticed by an exec. Same for pages in Hollywood studios.

It's not the major that will land you the job. It's work experience and knowing how to get the job done.

I really doubt that at your age you already know what you want to do for the rest of your life. That's just ridiculous.

A lot of juniors and seniors THINK they know what they want to do for the rest of their lives, but once they get to college and start taking classes for distribution requirements, they realize that they really enjoy other things too, which they wouldn't have thought of in high school.

College is about exploring you and your interests and it is about getting a foothold on planning for your future. Your interests should change in college. The good school will expand your horizons.

Again, it's not the major that counts. You don't have to major in this or that to be involved in the Entertainment Business. Instead, you should major in what you truly love, what you're truly passionate for and then try to find a career relating to what you truly love as well.

Very few people don't change jobs several times, and very few people end up having a job that has anything to do with their major. So keep this all in perspective. Also, read Major in Success by Patrick Combs. It's fantastic.

Don't a lot of people in Entertainment Business go to law school? It doesn't seem like a bad place to start anyway. In which case, you could major in whatever struck your fancy: economics, business management, psychology...it's more about taking what you learn to the arena.

I'd actually go for a major in media studies, with a minor in business...
