Hello everyone,

Should I drop my Calculus class and get a W, or study really hard and get a B (risk at getting a C right now because I have an 80% in the class)? It's the first Calculus class in the math series at De Anza.

I'm applying to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCD for the Fall of 2012 as Econ/Business. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and if I drop this class it would be my second transferable "W." I guess I'm just wondering if its worse to have a "W" or possibly butcher my GPA with a B or possible C. Any help is appreciated!

No You shouldnt drop! If you drop, you have to apply next yr for fall of 2013
It’s ok to get a B. Berkeley Econ Average GPA is about 3.8-3.9, UCLA is tougher at 3.94
You can’t drop because you need 2 semesters of calc and if you drop now, you won’t finish calc 2 till next yr! GL! :)

A B is a respectable grade in Calculus. Try to avoid getting a C, though. I got mostly B’s in math from Calculus through Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, yet I had no problem getting a TAG into UC Davis.

stick it out!! Study for the B! good luck :)

Forgot to mention that the school I’m at is quarter system and I can actually afford to drop in terms of finishing courses on time. Thanks for the responses!

Adriatic, lol i am in the same EXACT situation and same school loooooooool whose your Calc teacher?

De Vogelaere, Charles. According to RMP he’s a great stats teacher, but if I’m not mistaken its his first time teaching calculus and he’s a little unorganized. The class was originally supposed to be taught by Garrison, but the school decided to change up the teachers on me haha.

I hope I can somehow maintain and get a B :x

dude, that totally suckss. my class is messed up because of the curve its really scary. only top 4 ppl can get an A and i have crazy international students in my class -_-
