I am currently a high school junior and i really want to get my monologues together so that i can audition for tisch. I don't see many posts about Performing arts. Can anyone tell me what monologues are overdone or what websites there are? Or maybe what plays are good to look at? Also, is it better to do one contemporary and one classical or on comedic and one dramatic monologue? All suggestions are helpful.

For tisch, you NEED two contrasting (different emotions so that you show range) contemporary monologues. They need to be under 2 minutes each, and MUST be from published plays.

If you are finding that most people do not post specifics about monogloues, it is probably because it is a very personal thing. I couldn't begin to tell you what plays to read because when you find the monologue, you will just KNOW that it is right for you.

I would steer clear of the tuna monologue from "Laughing Wild," because I know that in general, that is overdone. Also, you should avoid the monologue about the birds from "The Woolgatherer." Basically, anything that you find LOTS of information on, I would stay away from. Check this out http://www.nicoth.com/articles/bad_auditions.htm. Remember, you want to stand out, so you don't want to do something a bunch of people have done before.

Keep looking at plays that interest you. Start now, because it took me over a year of searching to solidify my two monologues...I just didn't feel that anything fit me until I found my two. Good luck!

Thanks. I've been looking since the 9th grade and i haven't found any monologues that stand out. I'll keep looking. ^^Did you do a classical monologue?

No, because for Tisch you have to do 2 contemporary (not classical) monologues for NYU...

Bump.....bump
