I need help on deciding between Baylor and UC Riverside - pre med

Hey everybody,

I am deciding which one would be the best choice for a premed track. Right now it is between Baylor University and UC Riverside. Both cost around the same for me because I got a scholarship for Baylor.

I’m set on pursuing the medical field and would like advice on which college would be the best choice to get into med school.
From what I have seen - Riverside has a program where I can apply into their Med school during my soph year and Baylor has a high med school admission rate.
Some questions that I have are:

  • Is there any grade inflation/deflation in these colleges - would like to keep up the GPA
  • Is there an advantage into getting their med schools if I study in UG there
  • Will my out of state status (i live in california) affect my admission into Baylor School of Medicine
  • Is it worth applying for the accelerated or the guaranteed admission early during undergrad or is it better to wait till completion of undergrad to have a broader choice
  • Is Baylor’s science program better than Riversides?
  • Will Baylor’s brand name help in applying to med school?
  • Is Riverside considered mediocre?

Sorry for having so many questions. I am so grateful for any inputs you have and thanks in advance.

Baylor Medical School is actually located in Houston and has little in common with the university itself. Baylor Med is one of the top ranked medical schools in the country, although like most medical schools in Texas it has a majority of its students from there.

I believe Riverside has some sort of guarantee for its undergrads to go to medical school there, although its charter is to serve the population of the Inland Empire.

Thank you for your response! @Hamurtle
