i need help??? piano audition!!!

im a Junior, and i was wondering for the auditions for performance major on the piano, what songs should i do?

the songs that i can play already and was wondering if i should play them for the audition next year are, these are full versions not easy ones;
liebestraume no. 3 Litz
arebesque no. 1 Dubussy
Revolutionary Chopin
Nocturne op. 9-2 Chopin

and im still want to learn;
fantasy impromtu Chopin
. . . etc.

im just not sure what i should do, cause ive only been playing 4-5 years, and i dont know how good everyone else is!!!! and im scared, cause i dont want to work hard to fail, if anyone could give me advice??

oh, and not applying for julliard. thats just WAY over my head lol, just like uc or csu schools i need help . . .

Each school has printed audition reps. Although they may vary a little year to year and do vary school to school, as you search you'll find a "core" rep that everyone wants. This would be a good place to start.

The key step now is to have a very serious conversation with your private instructor and ask them to evaluate how good you are in relation to others and what schools they would suggest and/or instructors at colleges that may be good for you. Make a list of schools that you're sure to get into, might get into and then a couple of stretch schools. Start researching those school, maybe getting in a few visits and lessons this coming spring.

A final way to get a handle on where you stand in the pack is to enter a few local competition. You should also consider a rigorous summer program that requires auditions.

thanks, i will, but i dont know where to find all these local competitions and stuff, the only one i know is cmea, and does accompanist awards count? cause i have a couple

I would suggest not play any of the pieces you have now for auditions. (well, except the chopin etude if you are desperately in need for an etude for audition) Why? They are all of those "popular" piano pieces that make serious pianists' head hurt - not that they are not wonderful pieces, but they are just over played. You definitely don't want to play a piece that the judges have heard 8 times already on your audition day (like the Pathetique sonata... errh!)

Plus, for many music school, they ask for a "significant" composition from the romantic period, and that means a Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody, a Chopin Ballade, etc., but NOT a chopin Nocturne or Liszt Liebestraume.

thanks, but which hungarian raphsody? because i know there a lot of famous ones, but there are hella of them lol.

There are 12. My favorite one is No. 2.

ok for some schools i hope you know you have ot perform a sonata by either mozart or beethoven an etude which i guess revolutionary comes into play.. and impressionist piece,, where arabesque comes into play ...and some other one but yeah you should look at what the college wants when auditoning but im sure most of your songs are acceptable.. however.. arabesque is'nt that hard .. in New York its on NYSMMA five list and the serious pieces are level ^ which is Lib.. and Revoltionary.. and etc

do you mean that the Revolutionary and LIebestraume are high levels? and i think all the schools require a prelude and fugue by bach, does anyone know any good ones, or an equivilant time period piece?

um yeah they are high.. but yeah tahst it the fugue or prelude by bach.. umm to see whihc ones u like go to msn search... "free classical sheet music archive" go to teh site and go to Bach .. they have the orginial compositions

Just don't play Debussy's Arabesque... or Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu.
