I am currently a Junior and am not so sure where i am headed after this year which has been really killer for me. Below are my stats and i want to know if their good enough for maybe UCSD*** or UCI or USC or NYU and liberal arts colleges...

UW GPA: 3.32..terrible
W GPA: 3.535 (guessing with what im going to get by the end of this semester).. not very good

im really trying to do almost everything i can to make up for a crap gpa...my school is very tough and this year just sucked! let me know how this all looks and please let me know, thanks!

your extra currs look good. its great that you've been involved in track and volunteering. don't worry you should easily be able to get into a state university. where do you live and what do you want to study? do you have any particular universities in mind?

sorry okay i didn't read your sentence on UCSD, UCI, USC, or NYU. i'm not sure about UCSD, UCI, or USC but i can tell you that your chance to get into NYU would be greatly impacted by how many students from your school apply. about six students each year apply from my school who usually have anywhere between 3.2s-3.9s

Your GPA really isn't that bad for a school like UCSD or UCI. I know people who got in with comparable gpas, and I don't think they had such impressive extracurriculars (In fact, I've seen few people with such good ec's). Work on writing really good essays, maybe try taking the SAT once or twice more, and I think you'll have a very good shot.

i live in the bay area..go to a very competitive public high school...our school is really well known for our speech and debate team which i've been doing very well in this past 2 years..a lot of kids got into UCLA, UCSD, USC etc..

I'm doing another internship this summer in a trauma center...i really have a good idea on what to write for my essays, trying to focus on my experiences in a hospital setting. just this year really screwed me because i got really hard teachers and what not.

Im gonna take the SAT's again two more times, try to get it to a 2200+

A lot of people tell me for UC's to put down an easy major then change it later...you think if i do that my chances are better?

Grades haven't been so well but speech and my other EC's are really important to me and I hope they would give me a better advantage.

Also one more question: is it true for UC's i can only put 5 ec's down?

Just work hard to bring up your GPA first semester of Senior year. I had a friend in a similar situation, he had a 3.24, I think. He really applied himself Senior year, got all A's in various AP classes, and was eventually accepted to his three top choices: Boston University, College of the Holy Cross, and Connecticut College (among others). If they see that you've slipped up but turned yourself around, it will say a lot for your maturity.
