I need help please, what can I go for?

Hi, i’m currently in lower 6th in the UK and i have completed my SATS with a score of 2200, at GCSE i got 7As and 4A’s,
.In the up and coming exams -AS- I’m predicted 4 A’s and at A2 level I’m confident i can obtain 2A’s and an A
.

Im writing here as i have always wanted to study anthropology in the USA but i don’t know a lot about the good schools. Could someone please kindly give a list of the good universities for anthropology which they think my grades can get me into. If you need any extra curricular background, i have created my own charity, I’m in debate squad, i’ve taken part in school productions, I’m grade 8 LAMDA, i have finished gold D of E and I also do lots of rowing and have won races.

If anyone could help me out that would be really useful, thanks!

oh, also for extra curricular, I’m the head of my boarding house at school, also the financing side of it can be considered later rather than now

I don’t know a lot about the UK grading but that seems like extremely top scores and you have a great SAT too. The US has a very deep pool of fine universities. You can may be competitive for top schools but the applicant pool is deep and there are limited seats, especially for internationals. You should spend some time researching. In the US, about half to one third of classes are in your major, so the all around quality and attributes of the university is usually important to students here who are getting a liberal arts education…

If you can get a copy of Fiske Guide to colleges it gives a very good snapshot of what a college/university is like, special features they are known for, student body make up, general culture, where students at that school also applied…

There are universities that have top ranked graduate programs, like Penn, Harvard, Berkeley, Chicago an they will certainly have strong anthro undergrad programs with a large amount of classes and research activity on campus… But there are many other’s that don’t have the grad programs at the top but are still offering the type of superior undergrad experience overall and departments that would certainly get you into the top programs.

For starters, here are some top grad programs as measured by the National Research Counsel. There are universities of varying selectivity. Look to see if the undergrad experience/degree reputation of the school is as good, if you would rather only go to the top undergrad schools or just stay in UK, or if you will look at a well regarded school without the more elite name that would get you into grad school anywhere. I hope that made sense, no time to edit. There are two lists that use 2 methodologies.

You might note colleges that have their own anthropology museum, and many do. Penn, Brown, Michigan…

To clarify, cultural anthropology or archaeology?

Penn

Using a different term, cultural anthropology or physical anthropology?

thank yoo so much, this is very helpful

oh and cultural anthopology

Some of the best American colleges are not parts of universities. The following is a sampling of almost exclusively undergraduate-focused colleges that are all “on your level.” Over forty course titles in cultural anthroplogy are available at some of them, enough, it seems, for most undergraduates. You will find classes in field work, linguistics, phonetics and semiotics, as well as in the ethnographies of particular regions.

Swarthmore College
Amherst College
Williams College
Haverford College
Wesleyan University
Vassar College
Hamilton College
Middlebury College

Beloit College is less competitive in admissions, but has a highly regarded anthropology program and a museum. If you are female and might want a single-sex environment, a few other colleges could be added.

Though they may not have UK counterparts, in the U.S. colleges of this type offer an excellent and often sought-after alternative to a university experience, often in a beautiful setting. You would be able to row at some of these schools.

Some of the listed colleges have dedicated concentrations in social anthropology. Others combine sociology and anthropology. I might favor the former. Carleton, Reed, Pitzer and Pomona are other colleges to consider.

If you are fermale, add Bryn Mawr to your list for a strong undergraduate anthro dept.
