I have 3-4 teachers in mind to ask for a letter of rec, and a bunch of questions about this. Any and all help would be appreciated! (I've already Googled and searched and gone on the Common App website, and I haven't been successful in finding the info that I'm looking for...)

Is it possible/okay to invite more than 2 teachers to write a letter of recommendation on the Common Application? (And I'm not referring to the optional additional letters of rec, I'm talking about the main required letters of rec).

If the answer to #1 is yes, is it possible to send different letters of recommendation to different schools? For instance, would I be able to send the letters of rec from teachers A and B to school 1, but the ones from teachers B and C to school 2, and so on?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

What I know is that you can- it is okay to have more than 2 teachers write for the letters of recommendation. It is in your own discretion, though. Colleges do not recommend nor disallow more than two.

I am not sure about this. Nonetheless, there are two online application websites: the Universal College Application and the Common Application, so you can sort your profiles for different schools you want to apply. And I think you can create new accounts, so you can sort your application the way you want.

But, I checked common application last night and from how it gives you the option to choose which prospective colleges you want to edit your application on, I think you can choose which letters will be seen by which schools.

Yes you can invite more than 2 teachers to write you recommendations for the common app and yes you can assign different teachers for different schools when you go to fill in that section.

Once their recs are in the common app then you can select the names you want for each school and that teacher’s rec will be the one sent.

Some schools will let you assign more than 2 and they tell you so when you are on that page so you might be able to use more than 2.

Thanks for your replies! That was just what I needed, much appreciated.
