I need help to pursue the right institution for me.

Hello All,
I am from Bangladesh.
Recently I have completed my B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. My CGPA is 3.72 out of 4. And I secured GPA 5 out of 5 at both of my Secondary and Higher Secondary School Certificate Exams.
Now I am willing to study further in USA. I don't have any IELTS/TOFEL and GRE qualifications. So I might not get chance at Universities. And I can not afford the costs of the University.

That is why I am thinking of getting admitted into any college with lowest Tuition Fees. Yes this the matter of concern. My family can give me the initial costs upto $6,000+ for admitting, plane fare etc but later I'd have to manage my tuition and other living expenses by myself.
That is why I am searching for a college with affordable Tuition and other fees.
If needed I am ready to be admitted into Undergraduate level again.

I am expecting well thought advice that how can I get an affordable institution where I can get admission which fill ups all of my above criteria.

Thanks in Advance.

You already have a Bachelor’s degree, therefore you would not be able to apply as a freshman  You need to see if you B.S is equivalent to an American B.S and apply to grad school. Most grad schools “fund” (pay your tuition and often give you a “stipend” in exchange for specific services) candidates they’re interested in, especially in the sciences.

Hello, Thanks for the reply.
Yes, My B.S is equivalent to American B.S as many of my seniors got Scholarship/Funding at various University of USA.
But the problem is for getting such Funding, I have to go through GRE and TOFEL and then I have to apply for funding which may take a long time from now. As my CGPA is not good, getting Funding will be quite tough for me. I have to score high in GRE. I am wanting to avoid these actually.

That’s why I am aiming to colleges where I can get admission comparatively easily and quickly. I am aiming Spring session. Waiting for next Fall is quite tough. I just need a cheap college where I can get admission. And if I want to have a bachelor degree again will it be a problem?

Most graduate programs require the GRE, you can’t really avoid it. As for the TOEFL or IELTS, that is a firm requirement. An option you might have is to get a Visa to study English in preparation for a graduate application. You would have to pay for that but it might give you an opportunity to make contact with some graduate programs in the U.S.

Your GPA is certainly OK for admission to many graduate programs so you need to figure out how to take those exams and do well in them.

@xraymancs, Thanks for the reply.
Actually IELTS is not a factor for me. I am confident that I’d be able to do well.
I was just avoiding it because I was wanting to get admission for Fall-2013 session.
If I register for IELTS now then it’ll take more than one month to get the final score. Till then there might not have enough time for Fall applications.

Now, if I have to wait for Spring-2014 then I will surely sit for IELTS. So, those colleges require IELTS I would be able to apply there too.
As I said before that completing GRE and all other application processes will take long time and I’ll have to wait one year for next Fall session. Also the funding/scholarship is not Certain. I have seen many of my seniors had to wait for 2-3 years for getting proper funding. Without funding it’d be impossible for me to enter USA Universities.

I have seen some colleges offer graduate programs. I am even ready to change my track if needed. I just need to get an offer letter now by which I can get my VISA. I think later when I’d be eligible, then I’d be able to find postgraduate degree on Electrical or Computer programming. But at this moment getting an offer letter is more important for me irrespective of the course.

I hope I can get some good suggestions from you Guys.
Thanks

Aravbd: “Now I am willing to study in the US” sounds a bit presumptuous. We know you want this NOW, but that ain’t gonna happen.

There is no getting around the rules for admission to US colleges and universities. Even if you had the money to attend, which you don’t appear to have, you still have to do what all of the other students do: take the tests, submit applications and wait for the universities to respond, that’s IF you get admitted.

Now that the fall semesters will be beginning at the universities next month, it would be impossible for you to take your tests, get immigration status, and get Financial Aid FUNDING for this fall semester. So if your friends took 2-3 years, this will probably be the situation in your case as well.

As you’ve stated,

You’re right.
By the way, if you had the money, as an international student, you would be charged full fees for those “affordable” universities but you still wouldn’t be able to attend this fall. Universities in the US are not cheap, and students here, as well as their parents, are also searching for “affordable” universities.

Oh, and the universities don’t just give out “acceptance letters” so that you get a visa first then decide later when to submit your documentation.

Acceptance letters are given to you after you’ve submitted applications, submitted high test scores, have written well-thought essays and waited to see if you’ve been admitted.

No university, will give you an acceptance letter just because YOU need and want one NOW.

There’s a cartoon that sits in a lot of US businesses that shows a man laughing hysterically with the caption: YOU want it When???

OP there is no college that costs 6.000 a year including travel and room and board. I realize it’s a huge amount in Bangladesh but in the us the cost of life is such that it is not . in addition very few colleges will admit you for a second bachelors and the odds of getting financial aid are infinitesimal. in any case you would need to take the TOEFL AND SAT and you still would be considered for Fall 2014 if you want aid . Georgia southern has some scholarships in engineering but you’d have to be a top scorer on the sat. Your GPA_ is decent and preparing the gre is no different from preparing the sat so not sure why you’d take the college route, more expensive and more risky.

@aunt bea, You got me Wrong! It wasn’t presumptuous. By ‘NOW’ I meant that after completing my Graduation what I want to do. It wasn’t indicating time or any Casual attitude.

Yes, I know that I have to " take the tests, submit applications and wait for the universities to respond" if I want to get ‘Admission’.

When I posted this Thread, if I had started the procedure since then, I would have been able to attend this Fall in October as after getting admission it’d have taken around 35 days for completing Visa and other activities.

I found out some comparatively low tuition fee charged Universities but their deadline for application was over around June mostly.

I never mentioned that I’d submit the documents after getting my ‘Acceptance Letter’. There is no need to regard me that much ‘Fool’ that I am expecting an offer letter from any institute without sending my transcripts and certificates. I properly KNOW what are needed to apply for admission at any institute as at every institute there is a section where the ‘Requirements’ are clearly stated.

“No university, will give you an acceptance letter just because YOU need and want one NOW.” You got me WRONG again! Probably you’ve underestimated me as a Novice!

Anyway, again, there is no Need to remind me how Tough, or How Costly or What are Mandatory for Admission and etc.

A humble Request to all, if you know something about my Query, then Please provide that Particular Information. It’d be more help than just suggesting what could be better for me.

Thanks

@MYOS1634, One of my Friends from Utha State University, has told me that it would take around $6,000/year for living+food+housing. That means around $500/month. So my concern was tuition fees. I found a college called ‘Brea’ which charges very low tuition fees but it’d be tough to get admitted there as an international student.

Another friend of mine is going to attend this Fall semester at ‘Southwestern Oklahoma State University’. He will need to pay $8,000 tuition fees annually (as he said).

So $8,000+$6,000=$14,000/year means around $1,200/month he’ll need there. He would be able to bear this cost from his family but I’d have to earn it by my self there. But International students aren’t allowed to do ‘Off-campus’ jobs in USA.
And I guess I wont be able to bear this $1,200+ per month just by doing On campus job there. That’s why I was asking for a low tuition institution.

I have found an University at Newfoundland, Canada which charges just around $950+ per semester for International students. But it’s admission for this Fall was over and the next session for my departmental and most of the courses are for Fall, 2014. As I wanted to get enrolled by this Fall, so I didn’t try it.

Yes, there are many Universities offer funding for international students on Engineering. But all of them need GRE. As I mentioned before, I was targeting this Fall and scoring a good score (which will help me to convince professors) in GRE will take Quality time and I wouldn’t catch this Fall. That’s why I wanted to avoid it but as now it’s late already, so I am thinking for TOFEL/IELTS and GRE exams.

Thanks

Berea mdoes not accept students who already have a degree. Applications for spring 2014 will likely be due this fall and you will need to have your test scores by then. whether you take the sat or gre.
