I need help very badly!

I posted this in the Texas forum but they said to come over here as I might get more help. So I applied for financial aid at Texas at Austin as an OOS student. As I expected, I received basically nothing. I desperately want to go to Austin but I know my family will not be able to afford it because of our financial condition. However, they did send a paper saying that we could call if we have special financial circumstances that may have arose. To make it short, the reason we are struggling is because a couple of months ago, my father's secretary embezzled almost every dollar in his company, leaving him and his company almost bankrupt. His income is virtually zero right now and he is the main provider of my family (and I have a sister going through college). Do we have a good chance of getting some type of aid if we appeal it?

I've heard Texas at Austin tends not to give students a lot of aid. How likely is it that a state university like Texas will compromise with an out of state student in this situation?

You won’t know until you ask : )
I would give them the paperwork (eg. if there are charges) to corroborate what is happening and try to project the impact on his income, upon which your EFC was based. This does not mean they would necessarily be able to adjust anything, but if you love the school you should call them and send them evidence of the situation so that at LEAST you’ve tried to make a difference.
Good luck.
