I need help with Honors Chem!

At my school, our Honors Chemistry class is notorious for its difficulty. 55% of the quarter grade is based on the 2-3 tests we have each marking period (talk about test stress!); 20% is based on in-class labs, which are graded out of 30. 10 points out of the 30 depend on the percent error obtained during the lab. Which means that sometimes, even if you are very careful during lab procedures, you may not get the percent error you want.

I got a B- last semester, and I'm scared that it might go down even more, especially since I got a high percent error on the last lab despite being extremely careful and sticking to all the instructions. Does anyone have any suggestions? =/

Oh wow that sucks, in my chem class our labs are based on completion… lucky thing too, since my lab partner and I get around 150% error a lot.

Anyway, there isn’t much you can do except study hard for the tests and try and be prepared. Get a good night’s sleep the day before. I’m assuming the other 25% is homework, so make sure that you get all the points in that area.

Aaaagh. The thing is, only 5% is homework! The other 20% is “Problems of the Day”, POD’s, which are given almost every class period and have a strict time limit of 10 minutes to complete. And some are pretty hard. I’ve always been a strong student but I find myself struggling here…

that’s still better than the AP chem at my school. Tests are 95% of the grade.

55% tests is a low percentage. All of my classes have tests being 70% or 80% of your grade.

I don’t think you can have bad lab results if your procedure was perfect.

Wow, my class is 40% tests, 40% labs, 20% Homework.

This reminds me of how my teacher got everyone.

Test are 70%, Homeworks 30%. First quarter, he only gave out ONE homework. Hardly anyone did it. Made it impossible to get anything higher than a C.

Second, Third, and Fourth? Everyone did every single homework he assigned in fear that he would stop after the one they didn’t do.

My AP BC Calculus class is 90% tests, 10% homework. Usually, there is one test per marking period. One test, 90%.

^ Ah… but how do you guys cope with it?
