So on my UC application i put my major as Chemistry and an alternate major of biology. Does majoring in Chemistry have any affect on me getting into a UC because i know that this is a hard major!PLEASE ANSWER!
thank you!

You need to be more specific.

Which campuses did you apply to as a declared Chemistry major? Some campuses are more selective than others (for example, Berkeley has its own College of Chemistry). How well have you done in your high school science courses? Did you take any SAT Subject Tests in the sciences? Did you take the Math Level II Subject Test?

Do you really want to major in Chemistry? It sounds like you chose the major for the sake of enhancing your application.

If it is an impacted major, it makes it more difficult to get in. Some UCs allow you to have a backup major, others don’t. Berkeley does not … you either get into your requested major, or you don’t get in at all. UCSD lets you select a second major and if you don’t get in your first choice, they consider you for your second. Check out this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-general/1071944-impacted-majors-each-uc-schools.html

Speaking STRICTLY for UCSD (because I know all UCs are not the same in this regard), the major you select DOES NOT affect your chances of getting into the university. If you applied to an impacted major, they admit you to the university and then consider you for the major. As of this year chemistry isn’t impacted at UCSD (biology is) so it wouldn’t matter either way.
