So basically my college admissions journey is a travesty. I am an only child so the college process was new to both my mother and me. She and I were both under the impression that private schools were definitely an option because there had to be SOME kind of aid. So I applied to fourteen schools, got into all of the private schools I wanted,(ucla/cal/davis were the only publics I liked and they rejected me) and made my top 3 list which was Carnegie Mellon, Emerson, and SMU. after receiving my financial aid award from each school, I knew right away that I would need to appeal all three. They only covered around 18k of each tuition. Appeals for fin aid were rejected, so my mom told me that there was literally no physical way she could afford payments on a loan that would cover our cost. So I was left with transferring after two years at SDSU or community college. Since I know I’m the type that would be in a perpetual suicidal mode at community college, I thought state would be the better option. however, I’m being told now that it is better and easier to transfer from a community college than it is from SDSU? and also, does it better your chances of being accepted again as a transfer student if you were already accepted as a freshman? Thank you so much!
Forgot to add back story with fafsa: mom makes 130k gross income, after taxes and deductions it drastically decreases to 59k. Fafsa ignored that number. Our EFC was much higher than we could actually afford. And my dad is not in the picture, divorced, no income except for 13k of disability annually for multiple sclerosis.
I don’t have info for you, but you might do better posting this question at the transfer forum
