Hi :) I'm in high school & Harvard is my dream college. People at my school are telling me that if I want to get into harvard or an ivy-league, I HAVE TO have done at least one varsity sport in high school...and I'm not really a sporty type of person... but then, there are also those who tell me that colleges only look for consistency and leadership and that it doesn't really matter whether I do sports or not... I'm really confused! I'm not in varsity sports or anything like that because I'm more interested in stuff like dance... and I'm part of this after-school dance club at my school...do I still have a chance to get into harvard even though I'm not involved in sports? Is it okay if my ECs are all related to what I like and what I'm passionate about? Or do I have to show that I'm well-rounded through my ECs?

No, you do not have to play a varsity sport or have leadership positions to be admitted to Harvard. Read this series of NY Times articles with William Fitzsimmons and you will understand better what Harvard is looking for:

From reading on CC, several say that finding your passion and doing activities that relate to your passion is what Harvard adcoms are looking for. If dance is what you love, then dance. You can also show well-roundedness from other activities, like volunteering.

Good luck!

THANK YOU!!! phew I’m so relieved I understand a lot more now~
