I need help

I have no one to rely on, no one to give me information. My parents doesn’t know about this. I already submitted my FAFSA. Everything was all set. They Emailed me the Direct Stafford Loan Estimate - $5,500.00
but no Pel Grant. Can anyone help me or explain what happened. We are pretty poor. Low income.

What is your FAFSA EFC? What is your parents’ 2015 AGI? What is your 2015 AGI?

If your parents don’t know about it then how did they submit their info for FAFSA?

Maybe your family’s incomes are not low enough.

I agree with 4kidsdad. Could you share you EFC?

I did

Our AGI is 31k based on their W2

@ExcaliBae: what is your FAFSA EFC?

Where can I find my Fafsa EfC?

The FAFSA only tells you your EFC. It doesn’t tell you the amount of your Pell grant. The amount of Pell money a student gets will be on their financial aid package.

Look for something like this on the report: “EFC 02415.” This means the EFC is $2,415 and the student would qualify for some Pell money, but not the full ~$5k/year grant. If it said “EFC 00000”, that means the EFC is $0 and the student would qualify for the full Pell (~$5k). If the EFC was over ~$5k, the student might only qualify for a few hundred dollars of Pell money or none at all.

What is your FAFSA EFC?

It’s on your SAR…your Student Aid Report that you would have gotten after you submitted FAFSA.

what does it say is your EFC?

Our family AGI is 31k
and fafsa is only giving me this.
“Direct Stafford Loan Estimate - $5,500.00
You may also be eligible to receive other federal, state, or institutional grants, scholarships, and/or work-study.”

Really? where is my pell grant? anyone know?

This is INCORRECT. The FAFSA confirmation page, which is available immediately upon submission of the FAFSA, provides both an estimated EFC and an estimated Pell grant.

Dodgersmom is correct. The confirmation page does give you an estimated award. As long as the information you submitted on the FAFSA was correct, that’s the award you should get. However, if you estimated income or the info. is different than what’s on the tax returns, the final award may be different.

The Pell estimate should be on the right side of the confirmation page, just above the loan estimate. Your EFC will be on the left side of the page. It’s a 6 digit number.

You said your AGI is 31K based on the W-2. That would be overstating your AGI. AGI is your Adjusted Gross Income on your tax return AFTER deducting your standard deduction, which for two adults would be at least 12,000. More if they are senior citizens or you are young enough to be a dependent or you have siblings.

Did you file the FAFSA using actual tax return numbers?

No, Adjusted Gross Income is determined before taking the standard deduction or itemized deductions, and before figuring in exemptions. AGI is gross income minus above-the-line deductions, which are limited to the items on lines 23 through 35 on the 1040 form.

See https://www.irs.gov/uac/Definition-of-Adjusted-Gross-Income

OP, if your parents’ AGI is $31,000 and no assets to report, you should be getting some Pell Grant
