I need help

Long story short, I was just caught plagiarizing an essay for school. I recently got into NCSU during regular admissions and I just got caught today. I don’t want to go into detail but I was dumb and lazy and chose to plagiarize instead of writing my own work. I understand my mistake, but the one thing I am really stressing about is will NCSU rescind my college offer. I’ve already paid my deposit and made an account (I don’t think this matters though) and have everything set up ready to attend but all I have to do is submit my final transcript which has my final senior year grades. What I am anxious to know is will this show up on my transcript for the college to see? I know each school has different consequences, but what my handbook said.

As a school, our philosophy is to increase a student’s ability to work both independently
and collaboratively; valuable skills come through group projects, collaboration, and cooperation.
However, academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. This includes cheating, sharing or copying
other students’ answers, plagiarism, etc. Students will receive a zero on any assignment or test if
they have been found to be cheating. Parents will be notified and consequences will be given.

It then says…

In order to maintain good academic integrity and to prepare students for collegiate policies, an academic integrity board will be handling all cases of plagiarism. The Academic Integrity Board is designed to review cases of plagiarism through a thorough investigation of the work in question. The board will consist of teachers, administration, and parents. If plagiarism is suspected by a classroom teacher, they will turn the suspected assignment over to the board. The board will conduct an investigation to determine if plagiarism has taken place. If plagiarism is determined, the board will make a recommendation of punishment to the dean and the discipline coordinator. Serious and repeated instances of plagiarism may result in the recommendation of suspension from AP Courses and Athletics.

I worked really really hard to get into college, and I know that this mistake I made was very very stupid of me even though I was so close to graduating and going to college, I don’t want this one mistake to change where I go to college. Can someone please help explain whether this will show up on my transcript or will I just get a write-up?

I think you need to act swiftly and make amends. Make an appointment with your guidance counselor first thing tomorrow. The GC may have been the one who notified you that you were caught but, even so, you should make hte appointment. During that meeting, If the GC does not already know, explain what you did and how you will take responsibility for having done so. Explain your willingness to make amends in any way they choose. Then explain your concerns about college acceptance. Be completely frank and earnest.

Students do these kinds of tings when under pressure. They shouldn’t of course. But they do. Typically people who work with students understand the pressures students are under. They want reassurance the student understands the seriousness of what they did but don’t want them to pay an unreasonably high price for it.

Also discuss the issue with your parents. Be truthful. You need their support.
