I need ideas

considering Wes is poorer and considerably larger than its peers, this should actually be expected. maybe I'm just bitter though, but their FA office sucked and I think I deserved more.

why are you transferring out of UCLA? and you haven't even started? dude...

Would you consider top LACs near big cities? That would include Swarthmore. You are male, I'm thinking? If so, that let's out Wellesley. If not, well it is also very near a big city.
Don't know if either takes Spring transfers.

MIT accepts spring transfers. what does "10 char" mean?

are there any top LACs in big cities? (that are not wesleyan? )

US news and WR's #36 top ranked LAC, Occidental college, is about 15 minutes from downtown LA.

The forum doesn't allow posts shorter than 10 characters.

So, when one of us has a gem to post that is shorter, we string it out by adding (10 char) :D.

oh alright thanks.

hell no to occidental! that school is unknown and i live 30 mins away from it. I have lived in LA all my life, and i had never heard of that school until recently LOL

and i dont know about swarthmore, they have really ugly looking kids. I mean hideous LOL!!! I also remember reading the interviews with some of the students and one kid mentioned that he drinks tylenol in order to fall asleep because he is often stressed out due to homework... that is definately NOT the atmosphere that i want.

Mojo likes to have fun, have lots of free time, work out and relax, while also getting a free education (good finaid) :) which he will NOT be getting at ucla :(

who cares if you haven't heard of the school mojo? many people aren't aware of harvey mudd, cmc, and pomona, yet they are some of the best schools in california. have you considered loyola marymount?

Mojo, I doubt you will be getting a "free education" as a transfer. Every school will include a package with some combination of loans and grants.

Seriously mojojojo I can understand having financial need but I would **** my pants if I got 35k in grants, not to mention another 8k or so in govt. subsidized loans, and only had to find the means to borrow around 7k a year. Being poor does not mean you should get a free education. Join the loan party and be happy you have a low EFC.

lol ryan, i guess u need to do some more research! amherst gave me no loans :)

and brand, boo! mojo refuses to join the loan vip club! hahaha

you won't win you *******! suffer with the rest of us!

if you don't really want to pay for an education, you should consider joining an rotc detachment. i know that army rotc pays full tuition to students at usc.

amherst gave me no loans

And you turned them down because it was not near a big city and they didn't take enough of your credits, despite the fact that you were well aware of Amherst's location beforehand and could have gotten a preliminary credit evaluation. All of this only furthers my claim that you will still be transferring in two years. If you ever go to business school, I imagine you'll transfer then too. :)

mojojo

I am confused. I thought the whole reason you wanted to go to UCLA in the first place was because you are so in love with LA.! So why is it bad that Occidental is only 30 minutes from where you live?

No offense, but I get the feeling that if you had chosen Cal instead of UCLA you would be transferring out of there too.

ok, i didnt know HOW isolated amherst really was. I knew it was rural, but to a person that has never seen rural, i didnt know the extremes. In fact, it wasnt until 3 weeks ago that i saw how rural it was. I went on google maps and i saw satellite images!

to eddyx, you are probably right. I would be apprehensive about attending cal too, but at least i know i could say "its still better than ucla" LOL and i know i wouldnt have had difficulties getting my classes. The only reasons i could come up with that would make me want to transfer is loans and distance from home. The loans thing i probably wouldnt be using as an excuse since berks education is the best in the public region. Distance sounds like a better excuse. But for ucla, i have many excuses as to why i should not spend a dime. Also, why would i downgrade from ucla to occidental? Im trying to upgrade, not downgrade!

I only suggested Occidental because you asked if there were any LACs in big cities. I don't consider going from a highly regarded public with 35000+ students to a highly ranked private LAC to be "downgrading". Its just a matter of taste. Some people would go crazy at a school with only 2000 undergrads, while for many others, its the best education in the world.

I thought thats what you were looking for.

What about Pomona or any of the claremont schools? They are still close enough to LA if you have a car, and Pomona is a highly regarded school.

I want to go there but I'm not sure I could get in. I think I'll have an easier time getting into Cal or UCLA.

i cant transfer to pomona, they will not take the majority of my credits and i am looking for spring only.

sorry, i forgot about that. Pomona is fall only.

we keep trading back and forth on your two posts!!!

I still think I might like UCLA. I might go visit this week. But I'll admit that I'm scared of going to a school with that many students and ending up feeling like a faceless drone.
