Okay I'm the first person in my family (immediate family that is) to graduate from high school, and I'll be going to be the first one to graduate from college hopefully. I have three older siblings and they all have dropped out of high school. I know that UCF has some grant or scholarship that is for students who are first generation to graduate or somehting like that. How can I apply for this? what's the deal? I need all the scholarships I can considering that my financial situation is heinous. My mom isnt working because she recently had a stroke and my dad is unemployed (they're seprated). I need ot live on campus so it's going to be even more money for me. So if anyone can please help me out I'd appreciate it.

someone PLEASE help me!

Your best best is your guidance counselor at school and to call the UCF admissions office and ask to speak with an admissions counselor. Explain your situation to them, and they will be able to point you in the correct direction. Here’s the contact info for the undergraduate admissions office:

Sometime soon you’re going to fill out the FAFSA which will be used to determine your financial situation. It opens up in January I believe. When you fill it out you will enter information about how you live with your mom and she doesn’t work and I think it may also allow you to say you’re a first generation college student like myself. Don’t worry, you should be able to get plenty of money for it. Will it cover everything? Probably not if you don’t have other scholarships. I don’t pay a cent for dorms or tuition and got $600 back this semester from a combination of grants, UCF Pegasus scholarship, and Bright Futures. You will most likely have more grants that I did if you only have one parent listed as someone who supports you and it helps that she isn’t working at the moment. The rest is up to you academically though this financial aid money should eat up a good chunk of the costs. Good luck to you! Also listen to what zebes said, you can never go wrong with their advice.

I called and they were so rude and arrogant. They basically told me to do my fafsa and that by being the first to graduate and attend college that I’ll be able to recieve many grants, but first I had to do my fafsa.

FAFSA is crucial! It’s your “proof” to the world on what your family’s financial status is, and they may not want to talk in “hypotheticals” until you have a FAFSA on file that they can look at. Dunno … I would still talk to guidance counselor and make sure your family fillls the FAFSA out and submits it. I think you can begin to do that after Dec. 15th, or thereabouts.
