what stats are necessay to recieve merit aid??
how much merit aid is common among students and about what percentage receive it?

According to BU finaid office

Boston High School Scholarship
Recipients' average high school GPA: 3.55
Average rank in class: top 7 percent
Average SAT I score: 1220 (ACT: 26)

But then again, the requirements are not written in stone & it really depends on the candidate & the class. This website gives you the info on finaid (merit or need-based) http://www.bu.edu/finaid/grants/index.shtml

The Boston High School Scholarship is, if I'm thinking of the right thing, a special deal BU offers to Boston city kids, basically a free ride. I saw an article that says BU's spent something like $119M on this over the years. There's also something for parochial school kids from the area.

I think grants tend to be something like $10k and they're usually offered if the applicant doesn't qualify for financial aid. I don't know how common they are.

Are you asking about that Boston HS one? There are several merit scholarships you can get at BU. Go on the web site and search under merit aid. All the stats are there. Some are in the 1400 and 1500s (old SAT) range while a few are lower.
