They gave me less aid than I deserve. I have an A- average supposedly based on my financial aid pacakge but I got to a MAGNET hs where there is grade deflation, will they give me more aid if I call and complain? I deserve $8k more!

Not if you ask with that attitude; they’d probably say “Actually, we don’t think you deserve any of our money” Be nicer about it. Don’t act so entitled.

BU does not owe you anything.

What makes you think you deserve an extra $8,000? I don’t think BU offers guaranteed merit aid based on high school GPAs and no college that I’m aware of is in the habit of awarding aid just because a student thinks they deserve it, so I wouldn’t suggest calling anyone in the university to complain about what you feel they owe you. What kind of package did they give you? If your parents can’t afford to cover the gap, do you have a financial safety you could attend?

You don’t deserve a dime - a BU education is a privilege, not a right. You can appeal; but you are in no way entitled to receive enough money to make BU fit into your budget - you either stretch your budget to accommodate BU or you look to other options.

I have an EFC under 5000 and received absolutely 0 aid so stop complaining

@redsox1215 - Did you file FAFSA and CSS? Or just one? - Also, did you file it on time? I have an EFC of 16k and received 40k in grants… all need based (lol, not smart enough for merit based.)

@preamble1776 your gpa and sat factors into your grant. the higher your gpa and sat, the more in grants you get

@preamble1776 BU never stated that my NCP profile waiver form was denied. Therefore it was to my understanding that I had all the necessary documents filed. When admissions decisions came out and I saw that I had not received a financial aid package decision, that is when I called BU and they told me that my NCP waiver form was denied. I had to beg/plead my mother to finally fill it out (divorced parents issues blablabla) and i submitted it March 26th. Received a decision in 2 days. 0 Money. Very, very, upset.

@hfeiruwnhwg - Why would GPA/SAT factor in to need based aid? Especially when I didn’t receive any merit scholarship (intentionally applied earlier to be considered in priority review for Presidential scholarship.)

@redsox1215 - By March 26th, they’ve already doled out all of their money – you should call back/appeal by April 15th - by that time, a lot of kids will have already turned BU down (along with their potential awards.)

Need based is solely based on need though…?

I feel you OP. BU gave me the worst need based aid. Even Michigan, with its reputation as the worst OOS aid, gave me way more aid than BU. Then again, BU was a safety so it really doesn’t matter for me. Good luck with your FA appeal OP!
