I received my scholarship notification from Syracuse the other day: $12,000/year founder's scholarship, but that's way too stingy! Will the rest of my financial aid package (fafsa, etc.) come later?

Watch what you call "stingy", for some of us didn't get any aid at all. At least be happy you got something. =/

you're right, Im sorry...It's just a comparison to what I've gotten from other schools based on my stats. I'm just not in a financial situation to receive decent need-based aid or be able to pay for college without it (my stepfather squanders a large inheritance).

matta2888, I have the same question. I got the $12,000 Founders and no mention of anything else in the financial aid realm. I am still waiting on the others to know what their offers will be. I agree we are lucky and here is to hoping for the rest of you guys. Wish their notification was a little clearer.....

The need based aid will come at the end of the month. Only the scholarship money came mid-March. I'm guessing if you haven't heard by now you haven't gotten any?

When I was first accepted, I got $12k a year in aid. I wrote them a letter asking for more, and they gave me an additional $2500

Then, a few weeks later (after I was rejected from all but one other college - yay!), they sent me an updated aid thingie saying I would be getting $38k a year! My family is poor and my parent's EFC was $0; my personal contribution was to be about $1500, since I had worked 20-40 hours a week, every week, in the previous year. Anyway, they were able to get me into a federally-subsidized program, so all I pay is about $1500 in tuition out of my pocket, and plus the federal loans (eventually) :-)

I got a fairly nice aid package today, my EFC was about average and they had some very big grants in my package. It's cheaper than some State U's I applied to. So those who thought the Sticker Price was too much, if you have need, they did a good job.

A2Wolves, Congratulations. Aid is not a mystery. Syracuse meets 84% of student need on average (this does not mean that everybody will have 84% met, this is an average). Of that percentage- an average of 71% is in grants, and 29% is loans. BTW, these percentages are from the collegeboard website and can be looked up for most schools.

If anyone's interested, they met 78.6% of my need, 73% in grants. I don't want to give specific numbers though, although I thought it was a good package.

am i screwed if i handed in my css profile a bit late? eventhough my efc is pretty low

I didn't do my CSS until about mid-February, so I don't think you're in too much trouble.

Syracuse is giving me $8,000 per year, but even with that I can't afford it. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go. What should I do?

Call up the financial aid office and I heard that they are pretty much lenient and willing to help you out and with students that want to attend. But I don't think they'll extend it much more than a couple thousand dollars. Besides enetering a lot of other scholarships, you should also check out some online loan programs like upromise, etc.
