Two months ago, my father's salary decreased by $7000, and I was planning on dorming at my college by taking out a PLUS loan in order to pay for the room & board. Now, my father tells me to cancel the dorm and the PLUS loan since he can't pay for the PLUS loan anymore. Instead, I have to waste approx. 2 hrs just to get to school and then waste another 2 hrs coming back home, and my classes start at 8 AM! Any suggestions on how I can get more money/loans to pay for my room & board?

Talk to the college's financial aid office.

I did talk to my college's financial aid office, and they said that I'm already getting the maximum amount of aid a student can get. I'm getting scholarships and grants, and I'm using the Federal Stafford and Perkins loans as well. However, without the PLUS loan, I don't have enough money to pay for the room & board. Would it be advisable to take a $6500 per year loan from Sallie Mae, the Tuition Answer Loan, and choose the payment plan that allows to me postpone my payments until six months after I graduate?

Can you go to a college that's closer or can you take a year off or a semester off?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking about taking out an additional $6,500 a year in loans when you already would be taking out some loans. That would come to an additional $26,000 for loans for college, which is $6,000 over what most people suggest is the average total loan amount for students to take out to pay for their college education.

I can't think of any other way to help you. A 4-hour daily commute sounds too time consuming. Your situation is a difficult one, and, unfortunately I can't think of better options than the ones I've suggested.

do u have any relatives you could borrow from? uncles, aunts?

i would go to a school closer to home for like a semster or 2.... its crazy if you will spend 1/6 of your day driving..... taking all these loans to pay for a college and not get the whole college experience is not something i would want to do.....

Dorms are very expensive. Could you check to see if you could rent a room in the vicintity of your college. I think a fair number of people with homes offer a room for rent, and some students who have already committed to apartment leases may be glad to have you stay in a room and share the rent. Either option would probably be cheaper than a dorm with a meal plan.

Check your PM.
