i need my chances, yo! thanks in advance!

Girl, White
4.3ish GPA, Ranked 1 out of ~300
32 ACT (36 Reading, 35 English, 33 Science... 25 Math lmao)
5 APs in all
Nobody at my high school has gone to the Ivy League in a long long longgg time I'm pretty sure

Varsity Swimming all four years and swim year round, state qualifier, hold high school record that I set freshman year
JV/Varsity Soccer (11,12)
JV Tennis (9)

NHS Secretary
VP of another Honor Society

Volunteered as a swim coach for many hours, also as a volunteer director and as a summer reading and math tutor. Participated in school choir (didn't count as a real class) for 3 years. Altogether will be around ~350 hours documented, most I just did for fun

oh and i will apply to yale regular decision!

4.3 is kind of iffy, what is it out of? also if no one ever got into an ivy, i’d back down and try UChicago or somewhere less restrictive

out of 4.0, but my school doesn’t offer many APs so it’s the best i can do haha. i’m also applying to UChicago. i’m sure people have gotten into ivies, just not recently - does number taken from each schools really matter that much? thank you for your reply btw!

I’d advise you to retake the ACT in September and/or October to try to get up your math score.

4.3 gpa; that’s nice, now what’s your unweighted?

32 ACT is good, however the 25 reading is an ouch. (don’t feel bad, I suck at that section too!)

SAT subject test scores!?

@LesleyCordero unweighted is probably 3.95ish? 25 is in math btw haha  i am terrrrrible at math. i havent taken any SAT subject tests, the SAT is not at all prevalent in my area, but i took ACT + Writing and i think yale accepts it!
@beautitudo i may retake, but honestly i’m not sure if i can do much better than a 25! i am truly horrible at math. does yale look at ACT subscores?

Don’t listen to poster #3. Apply to Yale if you want to go there. Are your swim times NCAA or Ivy caliber? Contact the coach.

Good luck on the ACT retake, too!

@T26E4 thanks! and no, apparently yale has a very successful women’s swimming program, and i really am not good enough to swim at any ivy, they’re all very competitive… and thanks!

Ya, echoing T26E4 - the fact that no one at your school has ever gone to an Ivy has little or no impact on your chances.

@Idiosynca3y ahh that is a relief! i was a little scared there for a moment. i’m sure someone has gone to any ivy, though, my school is super old (like 100 years old) and it’s pretty big. so i’d honestly be surprised if someone hasn’t, but it’s good to know it doesn’t affect anything.

Dude my act score looks about like yours except I have 33- 36 redading 35 english 33 math and 26 science… It’s pretty depressing. I don’t have an athletic background though, so your chances are probably better. What APs have you taken?
