I need my transcript but I cant get it until I pay the school

I recently went back to school in 2017 after a 5-6 year break. I started school back in the fall of 2017. I ended up not passing my english class so I was told I was ineligible for financial aid for the spring semester. I ended up transferring schools for the spring semester and I passed all my classes. I decided to attend the summer semester and everything was fine until I happened to check my financial aid account and it stated I owe the school $724. I started to wonder how in the world do I owe money to the school and for what. I called and of course I was tranferred back and forth from the business office to financial aid department. I finally was told that the financial aid department canceled one of my loans but they couldn’t tell me why and that I would have to speak to my financial aid advisor. I eventually was able to get a call back from the advisor explaining to me that the loan was cancelled because I had maxed out the amount awarded from the previous school. This really pissed me off because I attended this school for 2 semesters and in the middle of the summer semester you all just realized thid mistake which now I am responsible for. I swear I wish I could sue the school for this inconvenience and negligence they have caused me. I was able to get some kind of clarity when I talked with the previous school about what happened and they did inform me that it was an over payment for the school term however it shouldn’t have taken them that long to catch it and they should have gotten a report about the amount that I received for the school year. Now that I want to transfer to a university of course I can’t get my transcript until I make a payment or make arrangements but is there any way around this??? I really regret going to school at my age. I feel like such a failure and disappointment.

Nope. You will also be more successful if you take ownership of your own life.

No. You need to work out a payment plan or find a way to pay. There’s nothing you can do to “get around it”.

Borrow the money form someone and pay them back ASAP!

By "can’t get my transcript until I make a payment or make arrangements " do you mean that the school is offering you a payment plan? If so, jump on that opportunity. They do not have to do that.

It’s very hard when you are trying to move forward and roadblocks pop up. Stay positive and keep focused on your goals. Please start keeping track of your own financial aid. As you can see, you have no recourse if there are delays, mistakes, bad bookkeeping, etc. on the schools part. And if you have any other financial obligations from your past, take care of them now. They will catch up with you and it will always be really bad timing. Good luck!

There’s been a financial screw up, but suddenly you say you regret going back to school at your age. I’m guessing you went back to college for a very good reason. So you have an issue that needs to be sorted out, but how does that make you a failure? What are your prospects if you give up? Rather than letting this set you back, consider it a challenge you face and figure out how to resolve it.

Presumably, you came here for advice. So borrow money, or find a gig on Craigslist or similar to earn some quick cash (there are all kinds of legitimate short term jobs that will earn you a few hundred dollars.) Don’t use this an an excuse to disrupt your education. This is something that you can overcome.

Pay the bill. Get the transcript. Move on with your life.

Frankly, I am surprised that you were eligible for aid at #2 after your grades were so bad that you lost eligibility for aid at #1. In many cases, just transferring isn’t good enough for that.

If you were ineligible for aid at school #1, due to your grades, then you should have been ineligible for aid at school #2. The school didn’t cause this inconvenience, you did by trying to skirt the issue by finding another school to give you financial aid when you weren’t really eligible. It came back to bite you. Make arrangements to pay it off, and move on.
