3. PSAT: 216/99%ile, CA. Commended status unknown.

COLLEGE STUFF

Intended Major:
1. Finance
2. Economics (schools that don't have finance)
3. International Business or Political Science minor or comajor

Geographical parameters:
1. EAST of, and INCLUDING the state of Illinois
2. NORTH of, and INCLUDING the state of Virginia
3. (not a requirement) preferrably a big metropolis or at least a big city.
4. Preferrably east coast

Other stuff:
1. Politically, I'm heavily left-leaning.
2. Geographical parameter 1 and 2 are not negotiable, but 3 and 4 are negotiable.
3. I'd like a school that doesn't place a lot of emphasis on a core curriculum...(in other words: I want to be able to pick my classes)
4. I'd prefer larger schools, although this is negotiable.

CURRENT COLLEGE LIST:
1. Reach-NYU Stern (ED)
2. Reach-University of Chicago (EA)
3. Reach-Georgetown MSB (EA)
4. Reach-Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
5. Reach/match-University of Michigan (applying sept)
6. Match-University of Maryland: Smith (priority)
7. Match/safety-Indiana University (Kelley)

Preference:
(from most to least preferred)NYU Stern ED>UMich>UChicago EA>Georgetown>Maryland>Carnegie Mellon>Indiana

I'm mostly lacking in safeties and matches. Liberal arts colleges are fine, although state universities would be preferred. HELP!!!!!!

Univ. of Southern California -- Marshall School of Business would probably be a match... great programs in international business, cinema-business (Hollywood), entrepreneurship, and accounting. And it's in LA!
Look into it!

If you're applying to Wharton as a reach, why not Brown?
It satisfies your location requirements, is very liberal, and gives just about as much freedom as possible in course selection.

Do you have a preference when it comes to campus environment, campus life and school spirit? Chicago (Economics), McDonough, Ross, Stern and Tepper are all excellent, but they have completely different atmospheres. Assuming you get into more than one of those schools, you really should concentrate on fit rather than quality, since all of those programs are top notch.

Indiana is a safety for you, especially if you can improve your SAT to 2100+. I would be very surprised if you didn't get in...and IU is a great place to go to college, so I would not worry to much about a safety.

well, if you go 1,000 miles away, you're going to realize half way through your freshman year that this was not necessary and a giant pain in the ass. You want a large school with a business program and a good econ program, and believe me, the thrill of being far far away will ware off as you progress in your econ studies and realize that it wasn't that important anyway. For someone from illinois who doesn't seem to want to go to U of I, and who seems to have lots of parental income at their disposal, I'd suggest UW-M or U of Indiana. Or michigan or minnesota. All of them have stellar business programs. Although minnesota's football culture leaves a little to be desired, but i like it.
