I need serious help, someone! :'(

Hello everyone, I am an Indian student. I took the SAT 3 times and I ended up with 1620(Superscore) :'( . I always scored b/w 1950 and 2000 in my practice tests. But, I panic. I always end up panicking and mess up my SAT.
I have come up with the idea of taking the ACT. Because of low scores, I am taking a gap year as I was considering colleges such as :
UIUC
Purdue
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB
UCI
UMich Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin.
I consider myself to be smart guy.
If I get into any one of them, the probability of which is quite low, I obviously won't take a gap year.
Secondly, I have heard the ACT is easier and the colleges give it equal preference. Please help me. Does a low SAT score mean that my ACT score will also be low? Will I be able to score 30+ on it?
Thanks

It depends, really. Some people do better on one than on the other. I say give it a try with a practice test and see what kind of score you get. Try to take the practice test under “test-like” conditions.

You could always give the SAT another shot, since you said you usually get around 1950 with practice tests.

I took it 3 times man, I’m sick of working so hard and not getting the deserving result. I have come to the conclusion that SAT isn’t my thing. After my external exams, I would start my preparation for the ACT.
P.S I will apply early next year, does anyone have an idea of the fee structure for the session in summer?

Just take a practice ACT test.

My bad, I missed the part where you said you took it three times. I would just say take a practice test. You can find some online ones in these forums or a simple google search would give you one. best of luck

Yeah, just take a practice ACT and see if you do better on that. A friend of mine scored an 1800 on the SAT, but received a 31 composite on the ACT. My scores were apparently about equal when scaled, but it’s different for everyone. It’s also worth noting that the ACT, to my knowledge, doesn’t deduct points for guessing.

I wouldn’t say either is necessarily harder than the other, but I found that I was better suited for the SAT than I was for the ACT. I had difficulty answering the ACT the second time around in the reading section and as such my score drastically decreased (36 -> 24). imo, the SAT is better spaced out concerning the reading sections. If you can read quickly, then you might want to consider taking the ACT.

Thanks for the help people. I am taking the ACT in June. I have also ordered ‘The Real ACT’ prep book cause I heard that it’s the best book. I am sad about the part that I would miss a year but on the other hand I know It’s worth it. Any more suggestions are welcome.
Thanks :)
