I need SERIOUS HELP

Hi, I am about to enroll at coastal Carolina community college in Jacksonville NC. However, this college does not participate in federal loan programs therefore I CAN NOT get Stafford or Perkin loans my Pell grant covers my entire cost of school. However, I need a place to live and I have to eat. I do intend to get a job but I will be moving to Jacksonville therefore I wont have one immediately, I will need to look for one. I currently have no credit and I don't have the luxury of having a parent sign for a private loan. There is no private lender that will loan to an 18 year old with no credit and no co signer. College starts January 6th. I will be applying for NC state aid and for institutional aid but that might take longer than a month in the mean time I need money for rent and food before I find a job. WHAT CAN I DO?

Even if you were to receive a federal loan, that money would not be available to pay for your move or to get you set up in a new place. Most universities do not release the money left over after covering tuition and fees until after classes have started when your schedule is final.

If you don’t have any money saved to pay for this move, you might need to get a job where you live now, save up that money, and delay your enrollment for a semester or so.

I hate to say it…but your best bet is to hold off until fall, and then apply to a community college that DOES participate in the Direct Loan program. You can work and save money for living expenses between now and then.

I know this is not what you want to do, but financially, it might be what you have to do.

well if federal loans go to the college and my college doesn’t associate its self with federal loans can I use another college that does as a medium to receive my federal loans for another college

No. You can only get federal loans for the college you are actually attending. If your college doesn’t participate in the Direct Loan Program, you cannot get a Direct Loan. Period.

Another thing…if you apply for fall admission, and do it and all of your aid application forms, you will KNOW what your aid is BEFORE you make a decision to attend. This time, you seem to have it backwards…you have made a decision to attend but do not have the funding in place.
