I am a sophomore with 44 hours and currently go to the University of Memphis. I have a 3.51 GPA and am a Computer Science major. I am trying to transfer to UIUC or GA Tech. I know I won't get accepted to their CS program with such a low GPA, so I was thinking about applying into LAS or undergraduate Studies but I don't know which major to pick within LAS. Can someone help me find a relatively easy major to transfer into, then once I am accepted I can do an internal transfer to CS. I have already completed all of the prereqs for both schools. Thanks!

…bump

bump…?

I think you are not getting responses to your query because most people here are not very familiar with the colleges and majors you have listed.

Do make sure that you are allowed to do an internal transfer from LAS to a CS degree - some colleges don’t allow it or grant it very rarely.

In terms of an “easy” major to transfer into, I think it needs to be believable moreso than easy. If you mostly have CS classes and suddenly want to be a Women and Gender Studies major in your application, the college may not like that you have zero pre-reqs for this new area of concentration and not offer you admission. So perhaps pick a major that you do have some classes (and good grades) so that it is plausible. Not to mention that if you get denied an internal transfer to CS, you are stuck with this new LAS major, so make sure you like it!

I am familiar with those colleges and majors and I’d say you should be concentrating on the pre-reqs. Both schools have required courses before transferring. If you have completed those and have a higher GPA in major related classes, and good other stats like SATs and ECs you might still have a chance.

If you haven’t completed the pre-reqs I would wait til you have.

If you refuse to wait then I would apply as a math major simply because of the large overlap of lower level classes. Also if you get stuck as a math major unable to transfer internally then you can always go to grad school for CS with undergrad in Math. ;)

Oh I see you said that you already did the pre-reqs… To that I’d say move on and go someplace else if they reject you. It would be silly to go take pointless classes outside your major just for the sake of transferring into your major later.
