I need some clarification on the instructions for the math section.

The online course has all sorts of interesting problems.

r(x) = x^2
t(x) = x - 2

The functions r and t are defined above. For how
many values of a is it true that r(a) = t(a) ?
(A) None
(B) One
(C) Two
(D) Three
(E) More than three

The answer they give is (A) None. I am wondering if for "values" they mean "real values," since there are two imaginary values where r(a) = t(a)

The instructions seem to imply this but don't really specify (at least in my opinion):
1. Calculator allowed blah blah
2. All numbers used are real numbers.
3. Figures are drawn to scale blah blah
4. Unless otherwise specified, the domain of any function f is assumed to be the set of all real numbers x for which f(x) is a real number.

Rule 4 seems to point to REAL VALUES only, but I want to be sure for the real test.

Yeah, it’s real values. SAT doesn’t test things as advanced like imaginary numbers

Just remember that the math section is fairly simple in topics covered, and won’t be that complex.

Simplicity is your friend on the SAT, both here and on the writing section.
