I am an immigrant from India that moved into the US a abt a year ago during my junior year in highschool. Life's been tough adjusting but I have sorta grown out of the awkward foreigner stage. I am applying to a couple of colleges- Texas A&M , Georgia Tech, University of Mass. Amherst. Chance me pls !
Gpa - 3.0 ( I am really dissapointed in it though my grades in India were signficantly higher and my av. was abt 91 -3.6 gpa )
sat - 2000 - didn't take the act
Ap's - apart from AP English for two years, APUSH and Gov, I've taken AP Bio, AP Stat and AP Physics C.
SAT subject - AP US history - 670 , Bio - 710
EC's - Varsity soccer ( 9,10,11) , Computer programming ( mostly at home ) and helped out at two indian old age homes. (not much when compared to my peers)
My essays aren't the best , but I'm getting them revised by as many people as I can get hold of ...
Would you recommend any other colleges for me ??

GA Tech: Reach
TAMU: Match/High match
UMass Amherst: Low match/Match

You’re a senior, correct? Will you need an F1 visa or are you a citizen/permanent resident? What’s your parents’ budget? Have you run the net price calculators and discussed costs with your parents?
Are you looking for a rather liberal school (UMass) or a very conservative one (TAMU)?

I was born here… here as in the US. I moved to India in 2nd grade. I doubt that I have any serious issues with tuition fees … so I’m pretty confident abt that. I was looking for a liberal school like UMass. And Catria, are you sure UMass is a low match?

I would also appreciate suggestions for other colleges that you feel I might be fit for… It’s worth a shot !

If you’re a recently arrived English Language Learner adjusting to the school system, you should be eligible for one extra year of high school. See if that’s possible at your school.

UMass Amherst, UMN-Twin Cities, Truman State, UNC-Greensboro, University South Florida, Texas State,Guilford, UTampa, St Mary’s of California, LMU-LA, Whittier, Willamette, Beloit, Susquehanna… are all possibilities.
If you’re interested in a more liberal school, don’t choose TAMU (one of the most conservative in the country) but what about applying to UT through CAP?
A student with roughly your profile can be found on the link below - his GPA is lower but he has extenuating circumstances (being homeless for 2 years).
Odds are good that if you applied to similar institutions, you’d get a couple college acceptances.
