In my school our final counts for 50percent of our final grade, and I bombed it, receiving a 66, making my final grade in math a 73(75 is failing grade in our school)

Do you think Princeton will rescind my admission?

Do you think Princeton will rescind my admission?

O.O

75 is a fail? What exactly is 'fail' - an F? or a C? (or if you're a hardcore overachiever...a B?)

75 is an F at my school

Not to be harsh, or the bearer of bad news, but if you fail a class, there is a high likelihood of having admission rescinded.

75 is an F? ouch....

Yeah, that's pretty sucky. Any reason why they do that that you know of?

I go to an all boys catholic private school and they do things differently.

they sure do..man...

It's possible Princeton may just ask you to do a placement test. I hope it turns out ok for you -- talk to your GC and ask how it's going to be reported and how you should fix it/if he can put in a good word for you. If it is going to be a fail (like 'F') then you need to call Princeton and ask what the best thing is to do .

is your failing that class affecting your graduating? i.e. are you short credits now? because if you don't graduate, you are in double trouble.

all i have to say is uh-oh. i dont think anybody here has any real experience with princeton's rescind policies.

i hope for the best, though. good luck.

yea well heres how my messed up school works

Passing grade for year is 75, our final in each subject is worth 50percent of final grade.

I bombed my math final, so my grade was a 73. So i have to retake that test in a week, and even if i were to get a 100, the best grade they would give me when i get my report card would be a 75, so it will look like i passed the course, so its not THAT bad.

My concern is that my avg will drop a little from its 81, which is not so so bad, but on my final transcript pton will see that i had to attend the 5 day summer school, thats what im worried about.

I dont know whether to call Princeton and bring attention to the situation which could screw me over, or just let it ride until june 15th when i have to send in my final transcripts.

I dont' think admission gets rescinded that easily but it's likely that you will be contacted and you might be put on academic probation once you start in the fall.

UNC Chapel Hill will sometimes rescind for a D...

well, your math final definitely can't be a good thing. what i'd recommend is writing a letter to princeton to send in with your final transcript, pointing out that an "F" in your school correlates to a "C" in most others, and how the grade was substantially based on only one test, which may not be an accurate indicator of your math abilities.

if this is AP Math (AP Calculus) they often make exceptions.

I've also heard in the past that Princeton feels you must be very special and unique to be admitted in the first place and so they want to keep you for those qualities. Therefore, they don't often rescind acceptances, more likely will have you take summer school or watch your first semester more closely. IMO, you should call them and explain the whole deal (the fact that a F really = a C at ur school, etc.), and they'll probably appreciate that a lot more than just having ur transcript show up with the F on it.

no you guys arent understanding this.

At my school, as a senior, if you fail because your final average(1/2 final, 1/2 grades from senior year) is below 75, you have to go to summer school. So My final average was a 66 because i bombed the test. But after i finish the summer school, on my transcript/report card, my average for math is going to show up as a 75(equivalent to the lowest passing grade at my school, or a "D". So im not gonna have an F on my transcript, theres just gonna be an indication that i ahd to go to summer school for a subject, and then passed it.
