I need some help!!! I will Chance back!!!

I am a rising senior, and I am a IB student. African American Male First generation to go to college
GPA UW: 3.3 (i know this is low and I will bring this up definitely)
GPA W: 4.3
SAT: 2210 (800 W 710 M 700 CR)
ACT: I plan to take
I plan to take SAT Subject Biology, Chemistry, Math (1/2) and World History
My senior courseload will be AP/IB Biology, Chemistry, Calculus BC, Statistics, IB Euro History, AP Lit, Latin, Micro/Macro Economics.
ECs include being the president of the medical club, members of science, history, math, and latin honor societies (includes regular nhs). I was treasurer for latin club and competed and got first place in the nation in latin and greek derivatives. I am currently doing research that deals with CDKs and developing a anti-tumor drug model and a project that ties with cell signaling. I am trying to get connected with universities and possibly get recs from them. I am looking at emory and MA general hospital as places for collaborating with. I plan to publish this research as well. In addition, I am writing a paper on systems biology and planning to publish it. I am a member of my county's public health committee and am working on a county wide project. I am an editor for the philosophy section of my school's literary section.

Also I would like to ask about transferring. This is just a thought for possible future plans but what are the prospects of transferring. I mean if I were to go to a state university like UF or a HBC like morehouse, would that put me at an disadvantage?

Colleges: Emory, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rice, UVA, NYU, USC College of William and Mary, Carnegie Mellon, Boston University and possibly I know this is ridiculous but UChicago.
Safeties are UF, UCF, and possibly UGA
Please be honest and thanks as always.

I also take part in a inner city tutoring program for low income children and also in a public health program for inner city districts.

You’re GPA is the only thing that seems to be crippling but all those places are matches or high matches except u Chicago which is a reach and the safeties. You’ll probably get into Uga honors

In on my phone so I can’t link my thread so just look for the one with my name. It’ll be on the first page

Also could you guys help me out with transfer admission? It’s just a thought and is not a definite plan for the future.

Everything but your GPA would set you up for anywhere. Then again, everything you have would very likely compensate for the GPA.

^Well except maybe U Chicago.

Yeah, I am aware that UChicago is a high reach probably.

You’re extracurriculars are outstanding, be sure to get good scores on the subject test, there’s only so much you can do with your GPA, just try to get it up as much as possible, even so it seems that your ECs will help admission officers look past it, that being said there’s some uncertainty about how it’ll be viewed but you have fair shot at most of the schools.

EC’s are incredible but unfortunately the GPA is very low for all these schools even with the course rigor. The SAT is solid but not standout at many of these schools as well. I would put Northwestern, Vandy, UChicago, and Rice as reaches and Emory, USC and Carnegie Mellon as low reaches. The rest would probably be high matches aside from the safeties you listed. BU is a match. Word of warning though, UGA seems to put a lot of emphasis on GPA. At least from what I’ve seen stats wise.

honestly I think you have a chance at all these schools (and don’t rule out UChicago, I know some people who got in on lower stats than yours). . .your W GPA really does matter–it shows you’ve been taking a lot of risks in your studies and not just sitting back and acing the easy classes. So you’re probably fine. :)

I think if you position yourself well by highlighting your hooks i.e first generation college, African American, you can definitely improve your chances with smart self-marketing. Along with this if you come through with the great research you’re doing; show how you had a tangible impact on the research they’re doing, get the paper published or get a recommendations from professors or doctors you’re working with it will really stand out on your app.

Places where you can improve: GPA, SAT (You can go for the re-take if you REALLY want to), flesh out your EC’s a little bit more

High Reach: Uchicago
Mid to Low Reach: Vandy, UVA, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern,Rice, Emory (Though if you get recs from Emory professors it really will help)
Match: NYU, Boston University, USC, College of William and Mary

You can really improve your chances with good subject tests, great recommendations and a great essay. Good luck and chance me back please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1526717-chance-me-stanford-some-ivies-chicago-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

A girl went to my school, and she got into Stanford and Yale. Her stats were very similar to yours-about the same GPA. However, your SAT scores are higher than hers and she was half-African American. Esp since you have affirmative action, your chances are really good. You also have awesome EC’s, so I think you should do great in the process! Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517196-what-my-chances-ivy-leagues.html</a></p>

I think you look like a very well rounded person save the GPA. My GPA was a 3.3 for fresh/soph year but a 4.0 this year. I think you should refrain from ea or Ed at any of those schools and work really hard with your senior year grades. Also you could write your essay and include a little about why your GPA is what it is. I think that your ECs will help you a ton maybe even enough for uchicago. Good luck!

Oh and feel free to chance back Just click on my profile because I am on my iPad. It is titled “Another Chance Me Thread”

I think you have a good chance  you GPA is kinda low but your weighted is good! U Chicago is a reach but you’ve got a good shot. A state school is good for getting gen Ed reqs out of the way. If you show really good GPa improvement at a state university you can get into a good school. Don’t forget to continue your ECs though. Chance back?

Play up your EC’s in your essay, you have nice hooks that will most likely get you into any of your schools. Northwestern and uchicago will be high matches/low reaches but if you can successfully portray your passions then you will be fine.

Help me out please. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=1528286</a></p>

I think the only thing off-putting is your GPA, but the extracurriculars are very interesting. If you major in something closely related to your EC’s that would be even better! Can you chance me?

You UW GPA is low as u said, but your rigorous courses should give u the upper hand in the end to admission’s committee’s eyes. You SAt is solid for most of those schools, but on the lower side (50% percentile) for some like UChicago, Vandy, NW, and CArnegie.
You EC are a handful and should make u stand out, any volunteering!?

Emory, , Rice, UVA, NYU, USC College of William and Mary,Boston University—MATCH
Carnegie Mellon,Northwestern, Vanderbilt----low reach
UChicago.- lowreach, b/c you being an African American minority and 1st gen.=promising

chance back as u promised!? THANKS

MY BAD! i read SAT as 2110 not 2210…in this case i still think my initial predictions are accurate BUT that you are in the higher (~>60%) SAT range for all these schools.

chance back!!!
